According to information from Sebastião da Costa, event organizers, the cow receives better food, 24-hour care, lots of baths and ventilation at all times.
Special treatment
The cow, which lives on a farm in the rural area of Venturosa, received treatment worthy of a high-level athlete.
In each competition, Esmeralda carefully prepares for the challenge, and, in fact, her performance is impressive.
This year's competition, held in the district of São Pedro do Cordeiro, was not the debut of the 'athlete cow'. In 2023, she had won first place in the “V” category.aca young”, intended for younger animals, but it was in 2025 that it took the prize in the category for cows aged 4 to 5 years.
Breaking the world record
This milk production record is an unprecedented feat in the region. Esmeralda even surpassed the cow Baleia, which previously held the world record with 132,2 kg of milk produced in the Passos Dairy Cattle Tournament.
The comparison is no coincidence: Esmeralda's feat is the largest amount ever recorded in the history of the local competition.
The Pedra Milk Tournament takes place annually and, over the six days of competition, the best animals in the region compete in various categories.
In her second participation in the event, Esmeralda reaffirmed her status as champion. The 'athlete cow', with special care and high-quality nutrition, is now preparing for the next challenges.
