Peru is one step away from becoming the first country in Latin America to operate 5th generation fighters, with an agreement involving the FA-50 and KF-21 Jets. Find out everything about this new feature!
Did you know that Peru could become the pioneer in Latin America to operate 5th generation fighter jets? Well, the country is about to close a historic agreement with the company South Korean KAI, which promises to revolutionize the Peruvian Air Force with the FA-50 and KF-21 Jets. Let's understand this story better.
Peru has practically already chosen its new combat aircraft and is one step away from being the first in Latin America to operate 5th generation fighters. The country's president, together with the Minister of Defense, led the signing of a commercial agreement between Peru's Seman company and KAI, a South Korean aeronautics giant.
1st country in Latin America with 5th generation fighters?
This agreement will allow Peru to produce parts for the FA-50 Golden Eagle aircraft, and, according to specialized Peruvian media, this is just the first step towards the acquisition of up to 24 of these jets for the Peruvian Air Force. The contract, which should be signed by the end of the year, is valued at around 780 million dollars, an interesting value considering the quantity and modernity of the aircraft involved.

F-16 jets
However, as they are light jets, they have their limitations. Therefore, in addition to the FA-50, Peru is evaluating other aircraft, such as the F-16 jets, to replace its current Mirage 2000 and MiG-29.
Furthermore, KAI offered Peru to participate in the KF-21 fighter, which is in full development and is already carrying out several flights. This participation would open up the opportunity for the Peruvian Air Force to eventually acquire this futuristic aircraft, which promises to be a 5th generation option at more affordable costs.
So, if you thought that Latin America was out of this technological race, you better think again! Peru is ready to take off with its new fighter jets, and we are here watching to see how this story will unfold.
