It's hard to imagine that, after three decades of promises, such an eagerly awaited project has finally come to fruition. The Matinhos-Guaratuba Bridge, an impressive 1.244 meters long, has begun to take shape and promises to not only ease traffic on the BR-277, but also boost the local economy with new job opportunities.
According to the latest report, the construction of the Get up Guaratuba has already reached 11,12% completion and is strictly within the schedule established by the Government of Paraná.
The consortium responsible for the work, Nova Ponte, has already begun the most complex phase of the foundation of the cable-stayed part, one of the most striking features of this grand structure.
While most of the bridge is made up of prefabricated concrete and steel beams and columns, the cable-stayed section requires a special technique, where steel cables are anchored to towers to support the track and allow free navigation in Guaratuba Bay.

Work so far includes the installation of nine of the 64 concrete piles that will support the bridge's 1.244-meter span. These piles are true giant columns, measuring between 20 and 50 meters long and weighing up to 470 tons.
The expectation is that by the end of 2024, 50 piles will be firmly anchored, ensuring the necessary solidity for this monumental work.
With a task force of approximately 300 employees, and with expectations that this number could double during peak construction, the project is moving forward steadily.
Unique challenges and iconic design
Engineer Larissa Vieira, who supervises the work for the Paraná Highway Department (DER-PR), highlighted that the cable-stayed section presents unique challenges due to the region's climatic and maritime conditions.
According to her, “at this point, the stakes are larger and the influence of the tides and the climate makes the work even more delicate”.
The structure will have two imposing towers, to which the stays will be fixed to support the runway, offering a free span of 160 meters for navigation.
This will allow vessels up to 17 meters in height to pass without the need to lift the bridge, avoiding any impact on maritime traffic.
The design chosen for the bridge is a reference in architecture and engineering, similar to other iconic bridges around the world, such as the Vasco da Gama Bridge, in Lisbon, and the Octávio Frias de Oliveira, in São Paulo.
In addition to its functionality, the Matinhos-Guaratuba bridge promises to be a new tourist attraction for Paraná, standing out for its resistance to strong winds and adverse weather conditions.
Another point in favor of the project is the ease of maintenance, with cables that can be replaced without the need to dismantle significant parts of the structure.
Job vacancies: opportunities for different areas
The work schedule is being strictly followed, with completion expected in 24 months and a budget of R$386,9 million.
The bridge will have two lanes in each direction, as well as safety lanes, a cycle path and protective barriers, meeting the highest safety and quality standards.
The progress of the work is monitored monthly by DER/PR and monitored by bodies such as the Water and Land Institute (IAT) to ensure that all environmental standards are respected.
Parallel to construction, the work is generating new employment opportunities, essential for the advancement of the project.
According to the most recent information, the Guaratuba Workers Agency is recruiting professionals for various positions, such as electricians, heavy vehicle drivers and specialized equipment operators.
Those interested in applying should submit their CV directly to the agency or contact us by phone for more details.
environmental preservation
According to the consortium responsible for the bridge, the impact of the work goes beyond employment, as the construction It also has the responsibility to monitor and preserve the region's ecosystem.
The balance of terrestrial and aquatic fauna, as well as the flora of Guaratuba Bay, is a priority to ensure that construction does not harm the environment.
Therefore, it appears that, With so many challenging and innovative aspects, the Matinhos-Guaratuba Bridge is not just an infrastructure project; It is a historic landmark that is transforming the landscape of Paraná and opening new doors for regional development.
But the big question that remains is: will this bridge finally fulfill its promises of relieving traffic and boosting local development, or will it be another one of those projects that doesn't meet all expectations?
