According to the company, the purchase took place in the so-called secondary energy market and needs approval from the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel). It is part of the electric company's strategy to reinforce its positioning in the transmission segment, accumulating an investment of R$ 3,5 billion already contracted in almost 1,5 thousand kilometers of extension and six substations.
— The operation has good levels of profitability, which meets the Company's assumptions of generating value for our shareholders. In addition, Lot Q has great synergy with Lot 21, another transmission project that we are building in Santa Catarina, a state where we are also the largest shareholders of Celesc - highlights Miguel Setas, President of EDP in Brazil.
Lot Q is divided into two stretches, with the possibility of starting operations on different dates. The first, in Santa Catarina, already has an installation license and is in the earthworks phase.
The second stretch, between Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, is in the environmental licensing phase with the Brazilian Institute for the Environment (Ibama) and the State Foundation for Environmental Protection (FEPAM), representing 58% of the lot.
Other investments
Recently, the company Sterlite Power, with headquarters in India, signed the concession contract for the Pampa project, in Rio Grande do Sul. Refers to lot 13, won in the last transmission auction by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel). The lot provides for the construction of three power transmission lines, totaling 316 kilometers in length and two substations. The investment is R$ 777,8 million.
The Indian company took over projects that dragged on for years in the hands of Eletrosul. Then there were other years of negotiations with the Chinese Shanghai Electric, which did not work out. The structure is essential to guarantee the transport of energy produced in Rio Grande do Sul, which, due to the lack of transmission lines and substations, had generation projects restricted from participating in Federal Government auctions.
