Check out this news: Pulp factory in Rio Grande do Sul will receive investments of US$ 530 million
The Chilean multinational CMPC announced that it will invest around US$ 530 million in its factory, in Guaíba, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, to modernize and expand its production capacity by another 350 thousand tons. The project, called BioCMPC, will allow the group to further qualify the operation of the unit, which has already been registering good performances, having surpassed the mark of 2 million tons of pulp and paper produced in 12 months, between May 2020 and April 2021 .
In 2015 the company expanded its operations with a second pulp production line. The R$ 5 billion investment increased the pulp mill's production capacity by almost four times, which went from 450 thousand tons of pulp/year to 1,75 million tons of pulp/year. The expansion created 10 direct and 30 indirect jobs, in addition to generating a workforce training program, benefiting approximately 9 professionals. The construction of the Guaíba 2 factory also favored the encouragement of local suppliers, with the hiring of around 180 companies from Rio Grande do Sul and the collection of taxes of approximately R$ 102 million in ICMS and R$ 2,2 billion in local purchases .
CMPC will install another monitoring station, which will measure and present data on air quality in Guaíba, in Rio Grande do Sul. The new equipment that will be installed on the south side, and which will be added to the station that already exists on the north side of the factory, has an estimated investment of R$ 2 million and will be integrated with Fepam's official air monitoring network, providing information on real time to the follow-up and control process that is already carried out today.
Implementation takes place on a voluntary basis by the company, which planned to extend coverage to the entire Guaíba air basin. This measure improves and expands the monitoring information for this important environmental parameter.
