The telephony company TIM gave details about the sales strategy for plans and prices of the new 5G technology in Brazil
The well-known “unlimited” offers in the mobile phone service may not have a place in the 5G phone plans that are coming. In addition, package prices tend to be higher than current prices due to the high speed and shorter latency period that will be offered by the technology.

The president of the telephone company TIM Brasil and general director of Telecom Italia, Pietro Labriola, provided details at a press conference on how the company's commercial strategy for the new technology will work. To explain the pricing decision, he used a comparison to Uber's plans:
“When you use Uber, you have Uber Black and other levels. And the price is related to the level of service. So, will 5G cost the same as 4G? There are several answers,” he said.

Pietro also questioned the existence of unlimited 5G plans. The director recalled that in nations like the United States, telephone companies sell unlimited packages, but restrict use "if there is anomalous or non-standard use", cutting off the internet or reducing the speed. Foreign companies also prohibit mobile packages from routing data with other customers.
“In the US, the law allows such communication, but in fact, the plan is not unlimited. This cannot be done in Brazil because you cannot be unlimited if you are not unlimited. That's why there are few places in the world where they have truly unlimited offers. All companies work to meet an economic and financial result. So, it's important to understand if this is viable”, said the president of the telephone company.
How will 5G technology work?
Alberto Griselli, Commercial Vice President at TIM, mentioned that 5G technology has some variables that grant the possibility of flexibility to generate plans with different services for different user profiles:
“5G has higher speed and services with lower latency. These features make it possible to build tariff plans to meet the needs of different types of customers. And that allows you to give something to everyone and something more sophisticated to a group that wants to buy something more sophisticated.”, declared the vice president.
Currently, prices for 5G DSS packages are the same as for 4G, according to executives, because the speed is not identical to pure 5G. In addition, it will not be necessary to change the chip (which is 4G) to access 5G technology, the executives declared. It is enough just to have a smartphone that is compatible with the standalone network (or pure 5G).
The president of the telephone company TIM also stated that the consequences arising from the 5G technology will completely change the economic scenario in Brazil. “5G will revolutionize economic activity and provide unprecedented momentum. The expectation is that the services are in the capitals before the initial deadline (stipulated by Anatel for mid-2022). We are prepared to start”, said Labriola.
