“This investment in the shipyard already led Governor João Azevedo to have an audience last week with the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, to show that this will also be one of the biggest investments made in Brazil. We are talking about over a billion dollars to be invested. So, the Assembly must actively participate in this process and in all these negotiations due to the size of the resources that are coming, "he said.
Governor João Azevêdo said after a hearing in Brasília that the works for the implementation of the shipyard should already start next year. “The project already has an environmental license and the next step to be taken is the detailing of the engineering part and we hope that, 24 months after the start of the works, we will already have the first ship to be repaired in Lucena”, he stressed.
Still according to the governor, the enterprise will make possible the implantation of an Industrial District in the region. “A shipyard like this recovers the macro structure of a ship, however, we are planning, in partnership with the city hall of Lucena, the installation of an Industrial District to attract companies that will provide a complementary service to the work of the shipyard, which that will generate many jobs”, he explained.
For vice-governor Lígia Feliciano, who was on a delegation to China in July, Paraíba has many attractions and good social indices that can lead Chinese to invest in various areas in the state, such as solar energy and mariculture.
“We went to five ministries of the federal government to get the commitment, as it is an investment of around 4 billion reais that is not only for Paraíba, it is of national interest. It will be the only ship repair yard in all of South America. It will generate 6 direct and indirect job openings. This will attract industries and bring development to Paraíba”, stressed Lígia Feliciano.
