The 7,5 billion euros from the Dutch Government's Climate Fund will go to the green hydrogen industry. The current hub under development at the Port of Pecém may receive part of the investment budget for the projects.
The partnership between the Dutch Government and the Port of Pecém, in the state of Ceará, is this Wednesday, (03/05), one of the great bets for the future of the complex. The European government released a new Climate Fund for 2024, with €28,1 billion earmarked for climate spending. Of this amount, part will be allocated to the industry boost of green hydrogen, and can reach Brazil at the Ceará hub.
Porto do Pecém can receive investments for green hydrogen hub projects through the Dutch Climate Fund
The Dutch government recently launched the 2024 Climate Fund, which will earmark €28,1 billion for climate spending in the country by 2030.
Of this amount, 7,5 billion euros will be used for the development of the green hydrogen industry, including 300 million euros for the import of this energy source.

This initiative may favor green hydrogen projects in Porto do Pecém, in Ceará, which already leads in the number of projects for the production of this type of energy in Brazil.
Currently, Pecém has the Port of Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, as a partner, which owns 30% of the shares of the port in Ceará.
In addition, the Port of Rotterdam has the goal that 25% of the green hydrogen that arrives in Europe through its operations comes from Pecém.
In this way, the partnership between the two ports through the Dutch Government can make the supply of green hydrogen to Europe even more competitive and safer.
The Dutch package for green hydrogen still allocates most of the resources to boosting domestic production.
Therefore, 5,1 billion euros will be invested in onshore green hydrogen projects and 1,8 billion euros in offshore production.
The project, presented by the Minister of Climate and Energy, Rob Jetten, still needs to be approved by parliament to be taken forward.
The Netherlands is committed to meeting its legal climate targets for 2030 and believes that cooperation with other countries that have the capacity to supply hydrogen can help meet the region's demand.
Therefore, the approach of the Dutch Government to the Port of Pecém for the green hydrogen hub may represent a good initiative for both countries.
Dutch Government investments in the green hydrogen hub can contribute to the development of the region
With the announcement of the project, investment in green hydrogen is expected to help boost the economy and create green jobs in Brazil.
The Port of Pecém, in particular, could benefit significantly, as it is one of the main ports in the country for hydrogen production.
Furthermore, the partnership between the Port of Rotterdam and Pecém can help make the transport of green hydrogen more competitive and safer, providing a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels.
The expectation is that the project will be approved by parliament and can contribute to the country achieving its legal climate goals by 2030, moving towards climate neutrality.
“With this letter, the government takes a big step further towards achieving our legal climate targets for 2030 (…) We are behind schedule and therefore will have to do everything possible to achieve this target by 2030, with the conviction that, with Europe, we are on the way to climate neutrality”, reinforced Jetten.
Investment in green hydrogen could also help position Brazil as a leader in the production and export of clean energy. The union between the Dutch Government and the Port of Pecém is just the beginning of a prosperous future.
