The president of the steel company met with the governor of Vale do Aço and announced plans to rehabilitate the blast furnace, the steel plant and the coke ovens at the Ipatinga plant.
The president of Usinas Siderúrgicas de Minas Gerais (Usiminas), Alberto Akikazu Ono, and the corporate director of Sustainability and Institutional Relations, André Chaves, met with governor Romeu Zema this Wednesday (18/1), in Cidade Administrativa, to discuss the company's R$ 3,6 billion investment plan and job creation in the state between 2023 and 2026.
Ono states that R$ 2,7 billion of the amount of the contribution will be destined to the blast furnace repair 3. (Started in 2019). The equipment has been in use for 23 years, but after renovations it will work better and have less impact on the environment. There would be around eight thousand temporary jobs generated by the blast furnace alone, he said.
R$ 1,1 billion will be spent on the restoration and renovation of Coke Plants 2 and 3 and another R$ 893 million on the steelworks.

Romeu Zema focused on developing and enabling the MG production chain
Zema praised the steelmaker's investment plan and reiterated the company's importance to the economy of Minas Gerais and the Metropolitan Region of Vale do Aço. “Investments of this size create the potential for a huge supply chain, both local and statewide,” he said.
