Aiming to guarantee the continuity of the operation of Malha Sudeste by the company MRS Logística and to provide more quality in the region's railways, ANTT approved the documentation and studies for the extension of the railway concession contract.
During this past Wednesday (27/07), the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) approved, at the 74th Extraordinary Board Meeting, the technical studies and the necessary documentation for the early extension of the Malha Sudeste railway concession to the company MRS Logística. In this way, the agency intends to continue the Operação by the company in the next 30 years to continue with the quality services of the logistics company in the transportation of the Southeast region.

ANTT held the 74th Extraordinary Board Meeting this week and approved a series of technical studies and documentation necessary for the early extension of several public contracts, including the Malha Sudeste railway concession contract to the MRS Logística company. Now, the agency intends to hold a new ceremony for the signing of the early extension of the contract as early as next Friday, aiming to speed up the process and finalize it as soon as possible.
The company MRS Logística has been responsible for the operation of Malha Sudeste since 1996 and the railway concession contract has a 30-year term. But ANTT intends to anticipate the renewal of the agreement, which should only happen at the end of the term, in the year 2026.

The entire operation of Malha Sudeste includes the services that are carried out on the main rail infrastructure in southeastern Brazil, the most populous region in the country and of maximum relevance to the national economy, guaranteeing a quality and safe flow of production in the region.
In this way, the logistics company operates providing services over more than 1.643 km, crossing the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, with operations in the ports of Santos, Itaguaí, Southeast, Guaíba and Rio de Janeiro.
MRS Logística then uses more than 800 locomotives and 18 thousand wagons, corresponding to 16% of the national railway fleet, to guarantee the services of operation of the Southeast Network with the inspection of ANTT since 1996.
Early extension of the Malha Sudeste railway concession contract to the company will benefit cargo flow in the region
The operation of MRS Logística in Malha Sudeste guarantees an excellent productive flow in the region and around 30% of all Brazilian rail freight passes through the rails operated by the company, according to ANTT. In this way, guaranteeing the continuity of the railway concession contract for the next 30 years is to provide even more security in these activities and the continuity of a high quality service provided for decades.
In addition, ANTT states that the early extension of the contract will also allow diversification of loads, greater safety and improvement in urban mobility, with a total of R$ 9,7 billion in investments (Capex) in the training of the railway network, in the acquisition of assets and in projects of public interest. In addition, another R$ 21 billion will also be invested throughout the entire railway concession contract for the operation of the rails in Southeast Brazil.
