Acelen Renováveis, an innovative energy company created by the Mubadala Capital fund, announced last Friday, the 7th, a historic milestone for the biofuel industry. The company carried out the first extraction of macauba oil in a continuous flow and on an industrial scale.
The feat was carried out at Acelen Agripark, an agro-industrial innovation center located in Montes Claros (MG). The expectation is to transform the production of biofuels and strengthen the position of macaúba as a new vector of sustainability and innovation in the sector.
Innovation and technology in the macauba oil extraction process
The extraction of macauba oil on a large scale is an unprecedented feat, as until now the process was restricted to laboratory environments. This did not allow for the scalability required for commercial production.

Acelen Renováveis, through its innovation center, Acelen Agripark, has developed an exclusive technology that enables the continuous extraction of macauba oil.
According to the company, the technology was created by a specialized engineering team that worked together with strategic partners to develop equipment adapted to the particularities of macaúba.
This innovative move places Acelen in a leading position in the biofuels sector. It also opens up new horizons for the sustainable use of this raw material in the production of renewable fuels and other industrial products.
Victor Barra, agribusiness director at Acelen Renováveis, celebrated the achievement and highlighted the importance of the feat for the company and the biofuels sector.
“The first industrial extraction of macauba oil carried out at Acelen Agripark is something extraordinary, the result of the combination of pioneering technology, innovation and the tireless dedication of our agro-industrial team. We are creating a legacy that combines decarbonization, sustainable development and the generation of social and economic value”, said Barra.
Macaúba: a sustainable solution for the energy transition
Macaúba is a plant native to Brazil, known for its high oil production potential, which is highly efficient for the production of biofuels.
According to Acelen Renováveis, macaúba is seven to ten times more productive per hectare than soybeans, which makes it a promising alternative for the production of renewable fuels, such as biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
The plant also plays a key role in decarbonizing the energy sector, as it can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 80% compared to fossil fuels. Acelen Agripark was designed to be a center for innovation and agricultural development, with a focus on sustainability and efficiency in macaúba production.
In January of this year, the company took the first important step by planting the first 85 seedlings of the plant, initiating a cycle of detailed agronomic evaluation. The team believes that Agripark will be essential for improving macauba cultivation techniques and making it a strategic crop for large-scale biofuel production.
Investments and partnerships to accelerate the production of renewable biofuels
Acelen Renewables is investing significantly in the development of innovative technologies and in the expansion of its biofuel production.
The project, considered ambitious and unprecedented, foresees an investment of around US$ 3 billion in the creation of an integrated unit for the production of renewable fuels, green hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
In addition, the company plans to transform large areas of degraded pastures into macaúba plantations, with the aim of producing up to 1 billion liters of biofuels per year at its first plant in Bahia.
To make this expansion viable, Acelen will use 180 thousand hectares of degraded pastures in Minas Gerais and Bahia, and 20% of these plantations will be allocated to partnerships with family farming and small producers, promoting social and economic inclusion.
The company also plans to create 85 new direct and indirect jobs to implement this production chain, strengthening the local economy and generating new business for the agricultural and energy sectors.
