After Mark Zuckerberg's promise about the future of technology, a company surprises the market by presenting a revolutionary device that no one expected.

In recent years, the race to transform consumer technology has taken on a new level of intensity, with companies competing to create the device that could replace smartphones. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently stated that the smart glasses are the future and have the potential to make cell phones obsolete.

To develop its smart glasses, Mark Zuckerberg's Meta has invested billions in research, integrating ergonomic design with cutting-edge components such as high-efficiency microprocessors, compact cameras and lenses capable of displaying information in real time.

However, despite the efforts, Meta's device has yet to achieve Mark Zuckerberg's ambitious vision.

Surprisingly, at CES 2025, a new protagonist stole the show: halliday introduced smart glasses that not only challenge but surpass the proposals of giants such as Meta, Google and Apple, raising the industry standard.

The revolution promised by Mark Zuckerberg

In September of last year, during an interview, Mark Zuckerberg made a bold statement by claiming that smart glasses will become the mainstream technology platform by the 2030s.

According to him, this technology will be so integrated into everyday life that the use of smartphones will become less relevant. “There will come a point where your smartphone will spend more time in your pocket than in your hand.”, said the executive, highlighting the convenience of smart glasses.

The Goal of Mark Zuckerberg has already invested billions in developing augmented reality (AR) devices and wearables, such as the Ray-Ban Stories.

However, while the market is still waiting for innovations that truly replace smartphones, Halliday has taken a step forward.

Halliday at CES 2025: An innovative surprise to compete with Mark Zuckerberg

At CES 2025, Halliday has unveiled a device that redefines industry standards. The brand’s smart glasses have impressed with their combination of functionality and innovative design.

Unlike the proposals from Meta and Apple, the device from halliday integrates an invisible display into the frame, rather than projecting it onto the lenses.

This unique approach solves weight and comfort issues, making them lighter and more practical for everyday use.

At just 35 grams, Halliday glasses are lighter than Meta Ray-Bans, which weigh 48 grams. Despite their lightness, the glasses offer a wide range of features:

  • Real-time translations for over 40 languages;
  • Displaying notifications, texts and notes;
  • Navigation with step-by-step instructions;
  • Adjustments for different eye prescriptions, with a dial that allows you to adapt the display to the user's needs.

The device also has a long-lasting battery, supporting up to 12 hours of continuous use — a significant improvement over competing models, which suffer from autonomy limitations.

Technology ahead of its time

One of the biggest highlights of Halliday glasses is the display integrated into the frame, which uses the smallest optical module in the world, measuring just 3,6 mm. Although small, it projects information with the same clarity as a 3,5-inch screen.

Additionally, the display is positioned above the main line of sight, avoiding obstructions as the user looks forward.

This makes it more natural and less intrusive to use compared to other similar technologies.

The glasses also offer an innovative feature: the “Digi Window”, which allows you to view text, icons and graphics clearly.

During demonstrations at the event, functions such as teleprompter, message reading and navigation were praised for their accuracy and ease of use.

These advances put Halliday ahead of renowned competitors, showing that innovation can come from smaller companies, outside the traditional giants.

The challenge of overcoming smartphones

While Halliday's smart glasses represent a technological milestone, replacing smartphones is still a monumental task.

Cell phones are more than just communication tools – they centralize our digital lives, with functions ranging from entertainment to productivity.

For smart glasses to become consumers’ top choice, they will need to surpass smartphones in terms of practicality, cost and compatibility.

Price is another important factor. Halliday glasses start at $489, with a promotional launch offer of $369.

While competitive with other devices on the market, it is still a premium technology that is inaccessible to many consumers. Mass success will depend on a gradual reduction in costs and an increase in production to meet global demand.

Meta, Google and Apple

While companies like Meta, Google, and Apple lead the wearable technology market, Halliday has managed to stand out by solving problems that others still face.

The lightness, ergonomic design and practical functionality of its glasses put the company in an advantageous position. This raises an important question: to what extent are the technology giants prepared to meet consumer expectations with comprehensive and affordable solutions?

Mark Zuckerberg, in his statements, emphasized the importance of making technology invisible and integrated into everyday life.

However, devices like the Ray-Ban Stories and Apple's Vision Pro still face adoption challenges due to their high price tag and lack of widely desired features.

Halliday, on the other hand, has shown that it is possible to deliver an advanced experience without compromising comfort or practicality.

A future redefined

Halliday’s CES 2025 presentation is a reminder that innovation can come from anywhere. While Mark Zuckerberg continues to champion his vision of a future dominated by smart glasses, Halliday has taken a concrete step in that direction, unveiling a device that in many ways surpasses what Meta, Google, and Apple have offered thus far.

If Mark Zuckerberg's promise comes true, the coming years will bring an unprecedented transformation in the way we interact with technology.

More than just a replacement for smartphones, smart glasses represent a change in the way we perceive and use digital tools.

The question now is whether the market will be ready to embrace this new era and whether technology giants will be able to keep up with the evolution led by companies like Halliday.

There will be no technology to replace smartphones for the next 10 years. They are here to stay for a long time! They have TVs, telephones, cameras, camcorders, calculators, compasses, altimeters, thermometers, GPS, pagers, radios, tape measures, as well as digital resources such as dictionaries, grammar books, books on a wide range of topics, games, movies and blogs on a wide range of topics. So the new technology that can put a smartphone in your pocket should be able to do all of this and more with extreme ease.

The only thing that could replace the smartphone would be a “think phone”, that is, some type of device implanted in the brain, but that is still far from happening.
