With accurate oil and gas marketing strategies, the trend is for the value to increase 6 times by 2030, points out PPSA.

In 2024, Brazil reached a new milestone in the collection of resources derived from the exploration of Oil and Gas, reaching a total of R$ 10,3 billion. The high amount is reflected in the increase in production and in the strategies adopted by Pré-Sal Petróleo (PPSA), which has optimized the commercialization of resources.

The expansion of production, especially in the pre-salt layer, is generating increasingly significant financial results for the National Treasury, demonstrating the sector's growth potential.

The growth of revenue from oil and gas

The significant increase in revenue was driven by several factors, as explained by the interim president of Pré-Sal Petróleo (PPSA), Tabita Loureiro.

According to her, the evolution of production in sharing contracts and the improvement of marketing strategies have contributed to the Union obtaining an increasingly larger share of the oil and gas extracted.

In 2024, sales reached 56 cargoes of 500 thousand barrels of oil, a considerable increase compared to the 33 cargoes in 2023 and 22 in 2022. The forecast is that in 2030 the number of commercial cargoes will rise to more than 365.

The production of oil fields under a production sharing regime, including the Tupi Field, has been a key part of this progress.

The contracts signed by PPSA and the auctions held by B3 since 2021 have generated significant volumes of resources for the National Treasury.

Pré-Sal Petróleo, responsible for marketing the oil produced in the pre-salt layer, has adopted new marketing practices that, according to Tabita Loureiro, have a positive impact on financial results.

It also highlights the ongoing effort to make the production process and increased output faster, more efficient and more economical.

The Tupi Field and other fields

Among the oil fields that stood out in 2024, the Tupi Field made a significant contribution, although with a smaller number of cargoes sold.

The highlight goes to the Mero Field, which was responsible for 43 oil cargoes, followed by Búzios with 6, and Sépia with 3. Sales also extended to natural gas, with 53,8 million cubic meters sold to Petrobras.

Oil marketing in Brazil is carried out through long-term contracts, signed at auctions promoted by PPSA.

Direct sales also play an important role, especially in the Sépia and Atapu fields, which were not auctioned.

Energy transition and the role of Pre-Salt Oil

The global energy transition, which aims to reduce carbon emissions and promote renewable energy sources, is also impacting the oil and gas industry.

However, pre-salt projects, such as the Tupi Field, have shown themselves to be more efficient in terms of carbon emissions when compared to the world average.

Tabita Loureiro highlights that emissions from production sharing contracts in 2024 were around 60% of the world average

Furthermore, the oil and gas sector in Brazil it accounts for less than 2% of national emissions, placing the country in a favorable position in the context of the energy transition.

Brazil still has an energy matrix considered one of the cleanest in the world, with almost 50% of its energy coming from renewable sources.

The president of PPSA also highlights that pre-salt exploration and oil production in Brazil have contributed to the country's energy security, allowing self-sufficiency and avoiding the need to import more polluting oil.
