The renewable energy sector in Australia is about to experience a significant technological advancement thanks to the joint efforts of Energy Vault, a pioneer company in gravity storage technology, and Acen Renewables.

These companies recently announced their collaboration to build two large batteries next to Australia's largest solar park, the New England Solar Project in New South Wales (NSW).

The New England Project

The New England solar park, once all its stages are completed, will reach an impressive capacity of 720 MW. The already completed first stage has 400 MW, while the second stage, currently under development, will add an additional 320 MW.

Acen Renewables had previously announced its intention to build a 200 MW, 400 MWh battery at this site. However, the strategy was adapted to divide this capacity into two separate installations: a 50 MW and 100 MWh battery and a 150 MW and 300 MWh battery.

Gravity Storage Technology

Energy Vault is known for its innovative approach using gravity to store energy. This technology works in a similar way to pumped hydroelectric power, but uses solid masses. Although it has generated both curiosity and skepticism, the company continues to advance its projects.

It recently commissioned its first large-scale gravity storage project in Rudong, China, with a capacity of 25 MW and 100 MWh.

Impact and Expected Benefits

Energy Storage Optimization

The batteries in the New England project will be charged and discharged daily, designed to distribute stored renewable energy during peak consumption hours. This is crucial to meeting high demand and reducing dependence on the state's aging coal park.

Advanced Grid Power Support

Energy Vault highlights that these batteries, equipped with Siemens S120 inverters, will not only store energy but also improve grid stability by offering support during disruptions and controlling reactive power.

Perspectives and Future

Commitments and Collaborations

The current agreement is seen as just the first step in a long and fruitful relationship with Acen and its future renewable energy generation projects. Additionally, Energy Vault has established memoranda of understanding with key industry players and multi-gigawatt-hour storage proposals with Ark Energy.

Financial Challenges and Advancements

Despite revealing revenues of just US$7,8 million and a net loss of US$21,1 million in the first quarter, Energy Vault continues to develop its technology, demonstrating a reduction in losses compared to the previous year. This type of technological innovation requires considerable investment, but promises to transform the energy landscape.

The development of these batteries not only represents a technological advancement, but also a commitment to Australia's sustainable future. By implementing advanced storage solutions alongside the country's largest solar farm, Energy Vault and Acen Renewables are setting a precedent for the rest of the world in the transition to cleaner, more efficient energy.

They will stock up on light by lifting weights. Have you ever thought if it was Dilma who said that.

Dilma is a visionary!!! At the time it was called Wind Storage, now it is Energy Vault!! The $0,20 revolution was swallowed up by the extreme right to impose the agenda of the capitalist system above all!!!
