With an investment of almost R$350 million, Bahia will have a new Natural Gas Processing Unit, strengthening the energy sector and creating jobs

A PetroReconcavo announced the approval of a project for the construction of a Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN) at Polo Miranga, located in Pojuca, Bahia. The statement was sent to the market this Monday (04) and highlights that the total investment will be US$ 60 million, equivalent to approximately R$ 348,2 million at the current exchange rate.

Project details in Bahia

The Miranga UPGN will have a processing capacity of 950 thousand cubic meters per day (m³/d), with the possibility of expansion to 1,5 million m³/d. This expansion reflects PetroReconcavo's commitment to maximizing production and optimize the existing infrastructure in the region, strengthening the natural gas production chain in Bahia.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2025, subject to regulatory approvals and environmental licenses. The unit is expected to begin operating by the end of 2027, consolidating the company's role in the exploration and processing of natural resources in the state.

Strategic benefits

The new unit will bring a series of strategic advantages to PetroReconcavo:

  1. Reducing dependency: UPGN will reduce the company's dependence on third parties for natural gas processing, increasing operational autonomy.
  2. Cost reduction: With its own processing structure, PetroReconcavo can reduce the costs associated with gas treatment.
  3. risk mitigation: The project will help avoid processing capacity bottlenecks during peak production times, ensuring long-term continuity of operations.

Jobs

The construction of the Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN) is expected to create approximately 400 direct jobs, in addition to stimulating the local economy with new businesses and indirect services.

Designed to be built in modules, the UPGN will be installed in a strategic region for the Company, enabling alignment with the gas pipelines that transport production from the fields and connection to the transportation network.

Impact on Bahia's Industry

The decision to invest in its own UPGN in the Miranga Complex is a milestone for the company, demonstrating a clear strategy of verticalization of midstream activities. With this new structure, the company is able to add value to the production process, improving the logistics and safety of natural gas distribution.

PetroReconcavo's statement reinforces that the project is attractive from an economic point of view and strengthens the company's position in the energy sector, also contributing to the economic development of Bahia and to the energy supply in Brazil.

However, the success of UPGN Miranga depends on external factors, such as the acquisition of necessary licenses and authorizations, which may influence the expected schedule.

The project also signals an advancement in the company's strategy in response to market demands and the challenges of the oil and gas industry.

It happened here in Bahia when they bought a gas processing unit and it was Petrobras' worst investment. They bought a unit that didn't work. The installation project was wrong. One compressor broke down quickly. They dismantled it and sent it to Amazonas, without mentioning the overcharging of the purchase. Dismantling and assembling it in Amazonas closed the gas fields in the region and the farm was the one that suffered. Without gas, they started saying that it was making a loss. The same thing happened at the farm in Aracaju.
