Tesla's electric car, possibly called the Tesla Model 2, will have the size of the successful BYD Dolphin, a Chinese compact that has conquered global markets, including Brazil
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has been hoping for an entry-level electric car for a few years, and it looks like 2025 will be the case. promise will come true. Information about the Tesla Model 2 is still limited, but it is speculated that it will be constructed in a completely new platform, with significantly lower costs compared to existing Tesla models.
In principle, production can take place at the Giga Factory in Monterrey, Mexico, or at the factory in Berlin, Germany. Elon Musk is also negotiating the construction of a factory in India, aiming for a model with price around US$25 thousand.
Opportunity for BYD and Tesla in South America
If Elon Musk's plans come to fruition, BYD, known for its presence in several segments of electric vehicles, you can find a unique opportunity in the USA. The BYD Dolphin, which already sells well in Brazil, could be a significant competitor to the Tesla Model 2. Meanwhile, Tesla, registering the brand in Chile, aims to enter South America, taking advantage of the rich reserves of lithium and the growing demand for electric cars in the region.

Tesla Model 2 could be compared with Chinese BYD Dolphin
The BYD Dolphin, a compact electric vehicle, has “conquered” the global market with its combination of efficiency, modern design and commitment to sustainability. Manufactured by BYD, a Chinese technology and electric vehicle giant, the Dolphin is standing out, especially in markets like Brazil, where demand for electric cars has grown.
The Tesla Model 2, from assembler from billionaire Elon Musk, in turn, intends to go “toe to toe” with Dolphin. The new electric car must take advantage of the new Tesla’s “4680” battery technology, which supposedly offers significantly improved energy density and therefore greater autonomy.
It's not entirely clear how small the new compact EV will be, but as Tesla hopes to halve the manufacturing cost of its models, the Model 2 can cost less than US$40.000 (around R$208 in direct conversion), given the initial cost of around US$64.000 (R$333 thousand) of the best-selling Model 3 sedan.
The next-generation EV will be underpinned by Tesla's third-generation platform, which will help make it cheaper to build than any of its four existing vehicles – the Model 3 midsize sedan and its SUV sister model, the Model Y, and the larger, older Model S and Model X cars.
