Environmental Initiatives and Sustainable Innovation
Bracell’s Ecological Restoration Program, led by Joedson dos Santos Silva, Luan Philip and Igor Macedo, began in 2006 with the analysis of degraded areas. Since then, it has adapted to new approaches in the management of residues from forestry and industrial operations, including substrate remains from eucalyptus seedlings and bark, knots, sludge and lime mud. The first test took place at the Pedra do Sobrado Project, and the second is underway at the São Sebastião Project.
With soil conformation beginning in 2021, eucalyptus seedling residues were incorporated into the soil in 2022. In 2023 and 2024, monitoring showed 90% soil coverage by grasses, erosion stabilization, and seedlings growing an average of 136,42 cm in height. The second experiment uses bark, sludge, and other materials combined in six different treatments to analyze improvements. The next steps involve decompaction, incorporation of residues into the soil, and planting of native species.
