Brazil is among the largest countries when it comes to installed solar energy capacity. This is what a report published by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) says.
Today, according to research, Brazil is in sixth place in the global ranking of production of photovoltaic solar energy. This current position means that the country has jumped its positions in relation to the previous report.
According to the survey, Brazil, which until 2019 occupied 12th position, today has a capacity of 37,4 GW, which makes it surpass countries such as Australia, Spain, Italy and Korea.
These data refer to the accumulated in 2023 and do not include, for example, the additional three gigawatts (GW), but they show that China easily leads the ranking. This is because the Asian country has an installed solar energy capacity of 609,3 GW.

This value makes China, alone, surpass, together, all the other members of the top 10. In this list, data was added from people who installed photovoltaic panels in their homes, businesses and other places (the so-called distributed generation) and also from large solar energy farms, called centralized generation.
Among the countries in the top 10, in addition to China and Brazil, are, for example, Japan and the United States. These countries, which are among those that produce the most renewable energy, have been signing agreements that aim to reduce CO2 emissions and, consequently, slow down global warming.
