By the year 2030, the Brazilian market will need an average of 80 charging stations to supply electric cars and the idea is to electrify with solar energy

A project survey Emotive predicts that Brazil will need 80 charging stations by 2030, in order to keep pace with the growth of the electric car market, also betting on the use of solar energy. Until then, the expectation is that the fleet, pure or hybrid, reaches the mark of two million units in circulation.

Potential of electric cars in Brazil

The Emotive project, through research, understands that the electric vehicle market in Brazil has great growth potential, capable of forming an important value chain.

With the expansion, the expectation is that new ventures will emerge in addition to the solar-powered charging stations, such as the market for rechargeable batteries, specific insurance, vehicle sharing, among others.

According to the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association, the total stock of electric and hybrid cars and light utility vehicles in Brazil will reach just over 10 units in 2018.

Sales of new electric and hybrid vehicles in 2018 should remain at the same level as last year – there were 3.296 units in 2017, according to registration data from Renavam.

New network of solar-powered charging stations launched in Brazil

The project is the result of an investment of R$ 33 million and aims to further facilitate the use of electric cars on Brazil's highways. In addition to São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba and Brasília will receive recharge points.

The first charging station is ready and in operation, located in Caraguatatuba, on the north coast of São Paulo. The region was chosen because it is an important crossing point, according to the project's creators.
