In addition to education, the high school competition for Apprentice Sailor Schools requires candidates to be at least 1,54 m tall and no taller than 2 m, for men and women, as well as to be 18 years old and under 22 years old, on June 30, 2026. In addition, candidates must be single and have no children or dependents. The opportunities are distributed in the Brazilian Navy by:
- Ceará Apprentice Sailors Schools (EAMCE), in Fortaleza;
- Apprentice Sailors Schools of Espírito Santo (EAMES), in Vila Velha;
- Pernambuco Apprentice Sailors Schools (EAMPE), in Olinda;
- Santa Catarina Apprentice Sailors Schools (EAMSC), in Florianópolis.

How to apply for the Brazilian Navy public competition?
Registration will be open from January 29 to February 13, 2025, exclusively through the Navy website. The registration fee is R$40. Those who wish to be exempt from payment must apply by February 3 (by post) or February 4 (in person). The notice for the high school competition provides for free registration for people who meet one of the following conditions:
- Bone marrow donors in entities recognized by the Ministry of Health;
- Beneficiaries of the Single Registry for Social Programs (CadÚnico), of the federal government.
The training course for sailors at the Apprentice Sailor Schools will be divided into two phases: the hierarchical level of apprentice sailor, intended for military-naval training, and the hierarchical level of cabin boy.
During the hierarchical level of apprentice sailor, the student will receive a grant in the amount of R$1.303,90, of which R$1.105 corresponds to military pay, R$143,65 corresponds to military supplement and R$55,25 corresponds to compensation for military availability.
At the hierarchical level of cabin boy, the student approved in the public exam will receive a grant in the amount of R$1.398,30, of which R$1.185 corresponds to military pay, R$154,05 corresponds to military supplement and R$59,25 corresponds to compensation for military availability.
Stages of the Navy competition
According to the notice, the competition will consist of objective tests, a hetero-identification procedure complementary to the self-declaration and complementary events.
The objective tests will be held on April 6, 2025, in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Angra dos Reis, Nova Friburgo, São Pedro da Aldeia, Belo Horizonte, Vila Velha, Salvador, Natal, Fortaleza, Olina, Belém, São Luís, Porto Alegre, Rio Grande, Florianópolis, Ladario, Brasília, São Paulo, Santos and Manaus.
The heteroidentification process, which complements self-declaration, consists of third-party phenotypic identification of the candidate's self-declared condition. The TAF will consist of swimming and running tests for both sexes. The psychological evaluation will assess the psychological characteristics of the candidates.
