Brazilian Army signs agreement with the US to purchase materials for metal bridges. Understand the objective of the Brazilian Army's investment in the construction of the structures.
On Monday (20), the Brazilian Army, through the Department of Engineering and Construction, together with the Army Corps of Engineers, announced that it is purchasing equipment for metal bridges of the Logistic Support Bridge (LSB) type. The Brazilian Army has reached an agreement with the USA and the purchase will be made through EB Commission in Washington, in the United States.
Understand why the Brazilian Army signs an agreement with the USA
According to the technical specifications, the Brazilian Army's purchase includes two sets of 60,96-meter metal bridges, conversion kits for the TSHR3H++ bridge, as well as components for the construction of a 50-foot (15,24-meter) DSH-type bridge and a 150-foot (45,72-meter) DSHR2H++-type bridge.
The conversion kit will allow for modular assembly of the structures, enabling different configurations of metal bridges based on the equipment purchased. The Brazilian Army has reached an agreement with the US and each set will also include hand tools for assembly and transportation, as well as adjustable ramps and launch kits.

The focus of these purchases is to strengthen the Brazilian Army's logistical and operational capacity, ensuring greater mobility in military and infrastructure operations. The metal bridges will be used to transport heavy loads, including large military vehicles, such as those classified in MLC80 (capable of traveling on rails and highways).
The Brazilian Army signs an agreement with the US and the initiative reinforces the EB's commitment to modernizing its logistical infrastructure, ensuring efficiency in the movement of troops and equipment in various operational scenarios.
Brazilian Army plans to build bridge in Minas Gerais
In addition to these metal bridges where the Brazilian Army has reached an agreement with the US, the city of Dom Silvério, in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais, received a visit from two lieutenants from the 4th Military Region of the Brazilian Army on Friday morning (10/1) to assess the construction of a temporary bridge over the stream that runs through the city. There is still no forecast as to when the installation of the metal structure will take place.
On January 7, the city suffered from heavy rains in just 20 minutes, with about 150 mm of rain falling in the city, equivalent to almost 70% of the volume expected for the month of January. This caused structural damage to houses and the collapse of two bridges, leaving neighborhoods isolated while the waters took over the streets. It took about three hours for the level to return to normal.
Other metal bridges under development in other states
One of the bridges that was destroyed connected the Campestre neighborhood to the city center. A wooden bridge was installed to ensure the movement of the population. The inspection by army officials aims to replace this bridge with a metal bridge.
According to the mayor Jose Braulio Aleixo, at least nine bridges were lost, both concrete and wooden. Two of them are in the urban area. And it is still evaluating whether a third is condemned.
It is worth mentioning that construction is underway on three more metal bridges that will be installed in the Taquari Valley. In total, the agreement between private companies, the State Government and city governments includes 10 structures. The first four should be delivered by March.
Three others had their works started at the end of last year, in Coqueiro Baixo, Travesseiro and Relvado. The president of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Vale do Taquari (CIC-VT), Ângelo Fontana, reported that he carried out an inspection this week to monitor the progress of the works.
