Vaca Muerta is an innovative project from Argentina in the Oil and Gas sector, carried out in unconventional exploration environments
Argentina started, a few years ago, oil and gas exploration in an unconventional way, in the Vaca Muerta region. In this sense, the project adopts exclusive techniques for exploring oil wells that are located in the middle of shacks, fruit plantations and other geological conditions. This technique, still unpublished in Brazil, was learned and can generate onshore and offshore jobs.
The country of “los hermanos” has the second largest shale gas reserves in the world and the fourth largest oil reserve in an unconventional way. That is, the country has developed exclusive techniques to maintain life around these oil wells and still have great productivity. Brazil was at a meeting on Vaca Muerta in Argentina and may implement exploration techniques here. Know more.

Companies from the Oil and Gas sector and ABPIP were present at the event in Buenos Aires
The Brazilian Association of Independent Oil and Gas Producers (ABPIP) and associated companies participated in the event on Vaca Muerta in Buenos Aires. The seminar was titled: “Lessons Learned from Vaca Muerta”, and also brought the illustrious participation of large bodies and oil and gas companies such as SLB, Tecpetrol and Halliburton.
- Oil exploration on the Equatorial Margin: 16 billion barrels and 326 thousand jobs that can transform Amapá and Brazil
- Billion-dollar offshore deal: PRIO invests US$1,92 billion and takes over 40% of giant offshore field in Brazil after Chinese companies leave
- New gas discovery in South America takes Venezuela to 300,9 BILLION barrels, surpasses Saudi Arabia, Canada and Iraq, and leaves the Middle East eating dust!
- Federal government approves and pre-salt oil will be auctioned! New Chinese dominance?
The event was highly enriching for the Brazilian team and brought many lessons learned from the neighboring country on new forms of exploitation of oil and gas in unconventional environments. However, this learning will be applied in Brazil in the coming years and will generate many onshore and offshore jobs. And also, it will bring economic development.
“This was an excellent opportunity for participants to exchange experiences with representatives of the Argentinean industry on the exploration technique still unpublished in Brazil”
Anabal Santos Júnior, Executive Secretary of ABPIP (2022)
Brazilian mission to expand the exploration of non-conventional reservoirs was what led the oil and gas sector to the event
Brazil has a mission called “Non-Conventional Reservoirs – Transparent Well”. It aims to expand national techniques to explore new oil fields that are out of the ordinary and can generate onshore and offshore jobs.
However, this mission is carried out in partnership with the National Organization of the Petroleum Industry (ONIP) and is coordinated by ABPIP. This mission took place between the 1st and 4th of November and was very fruitful. After all, the sector's technical team exchanged experiences with big names in the sector and specialists in non-conventional exploration.
In addition, Brazil also participated in the “Argentina Shale Production 2022” Congress, as part of the stipulated mission. In this sense, the technical team in Brazil had access to successful cases and learned the modern technique for implementation in our country and exploration of non-conventional wells. In addition, the technical team visited and accompanied operations in the Province of Neuquén.
Brazil is one of the biggest names in shale gas production in the world, it just needs a technique to explore the gas and generate new jobs onshore and offshore
Brazil has a great world name in the production of oil and gas. But this is not only due to the pre-salt. After all, market specialists point out that our country is the 10th in the world with the highest potential volume of shale gas. This type of gas is obtained through exploration with non-conventional methods and requires technique and investment in technology.
However, the technical team already thinks about the Transparent Well Project for the next few years.
“The execution of the Poço Transparente Project will allow for advances in the knowledge of the potential of unconventional oil resources in Brazil, bringing new technologies, expanding scientific knowledge and, with the participation of the whole society, generating income, new jobs and socioeconomic development, mainly in the inside the country”.
Anabal Santos Júnior, Executive Secretary of ABPIP (2022).
