The model will be manufactured in Gravataí (RS), will use the Onix platform and will have a mild hybrid version; it will rival the Pulse, Kardian and VW Tera
A Chevrolet confirmed that will launch a new compact SUV in Brazil em 2026. The project, still without an official name, is known internally as “Carbon Project” and will be produced in Gravataí factory (RS) — the same person responsible for the line Onix and Onix Plus.
With platform-based structure GEM, the SUV will have similar proportions to the Onix, but with slightly greater height and length, as required by the sports utility vehicle segment. The novelty reinforces the brand presence No. competitive entry-level SUV market in the country.

SUV, Hatchback, Sedan, 4×4, Crossover, Coupé and more: what do the acronyms for the body types found on Brazil's best-selling cars mean?
The mechanics will be known: the model should bring the engine 1.0 turbo flex with 116 hp, already used in the Onix and Tracker. In addition, a version with mild hybrid system, with focus in energy efficiency and suitability to new emissions targets.
New Chevrolet SUV arrives to face Pulse, Kardian and VW Tera
Chevrolet will position the new model below the Tracker, targeting consumers who want a more affordable compact SUV, but with a modern engine and standard connectivity. With this, the model will compete directly with:
- Fiat pulse
- Renault Kardian
- Volkswagen Tera (scheduled for release in 2025)
This market segment is one of the fastest growing in Brazil and represents a strategic slice for automakers. Chevrolet's new compact SUV in Brazil will therefore be a GM's key bet to maintain its share and retain customers who already know the Onix line.
National production and focus on efficiency
The choice of Gravataí plant to manufacture the model is strategic. The unit already dominates the GEM platform and has the capacity to produce on a large scale, with low logistics cost e high rate of nationalization of parts.
The use of the 1.0 turbo engine with flex technology and possible light electrification reinforces the trend towards more sustainable models, without relying exclusively on total electrification, still restricted by infrastructure in Brazil.
….if it is the current engine with an oil-bathed timing belt, it is over! Only the uninformed and those who believe in MKT will buy one with that engine! Good luck
If they launch the model with this engine that uses an oil-immersed belt, it will be stillborn… Hasn't GM learned yet? How difficult is it to switch to a timing chain? Then, success will be guaranteed.
I don't see any problem with an oil-bathed belt with a 240 warranty.
The problem is that all the revisions at the dealership are expensive.
Using the recommended oil and a trusted mechanic is half the price.
