Is the Chevrolet Cobalt dead? No, it remains “alive to Silva”, it is very successful and promises to replace the Onix and terrorize the sales of the Toyota Corolla, but now on the other side of the world. More precisely in Uzbekistan, a country located in Central Asia. There, Chevrolet's new car is produced by UzAuto Motors, a state-owned manufacturer that has a partnership with GM and Ravon.

If in Brazil, despite being much loved by Brazilians, the Chevrolet car has been part of the past since its production ended in 2020, in Uzbekistan, the Cobalt is still successful, so much so that it will receive an update. The local company is preparing a restyling of the Cobalt, which will be presented soon. Toyota Corolla

Chevrolet Cobalt will gain new line Toyota Corolla

Although there are still no images of the new Chevrolet Cobalt car from UzAuto, the brand has already released some information about the new product. According to the manufacturer, a partial restyling will be carried out on the exterior of the vehicle that will compete with the rival Toyota Corolla sedan.

This will be the first major update for the region's market, as Chevrolet's new car did not undergo the 2016 changes, maintaining the same model launched locally in 2012.

The specialized press speculates that the update will only bring the changes that the Latin model received in 2016. The Cobalt will not gain a new engine or new versions. Toyota Corolla

Expectations for the new design: Chevrolet's new sedan promises to follow the Brazilian model

If the update follows the pattern of the Brazilian model, we can expect the new Chevrolet car to have new headlights with a more rounded and less aggressive design, a more modern front grille and a bumper with a smoother look.

With changes focused only on design, the Central Asian Cobalt should maintain the 1.5 gasoline engine with 106 hp. This specification is limited compared to the Brazilian model launched in 2016, which had two engine options: the 1.4 EconoFlex and the 1.8, which generated, respectively, 102 hp and 108 hp of power.

Where do cars produced in Uzbekistan go?

In addition to supplying the domestic market in Uzbekistan, the new Chevrolet Cobalt car produced by UzAuto is exported to other countries in the region, such as Kazakhstan, Georgia and Azerbaijan. However, there is still an impasse regarding its commercialization in Russia due to the Ukrainian War.

At the factory located in Asaka, the Tahoe, Equinox, Captiva and Traverse SUVs are also produced, in addition to the well-known Onix, which promises to be replaced by the new Cobalt.

Since 2019, when it changed its name from GM Uzbekistan to UzAuto Motors, the company is also preparing another sedan for the local market, the Lacetti, which can be purchased online. This model was also sold in Brazil between 2005 and 2010, but it wasn't much missed.
