The US is investing heavily in the construction of airports, tunnels and giant factories. These projects will modernize transportation, boost the economy and create thousands of jobs.
America’s infrastructure is undergoing a revolution. Construction giants are building futuristic airports, state-of-the-art tunnels, and sprawling factories. The goal is to improve mobility, create jobs, and make the country more efficient.
The projects involve billion-dollar investments and cutting-edge engineering. Major projects include the modernization of Los Angeles Airport (LAX), the construction of Tesla's Giga Texas factory, the new tunnel under the Hudson River, the renovation of Penn Station and the implementation of high-speed rail in California.
These megaprojects are not just giant constructions. They represent the future of transportation and the American economy.

The largest megaprojects under construction in the United States
Modernization of Los Angeles Airport (LAX)
LAX International Airport is undergoing a transformation. The airport, one of the busiest in the world, is receiving a $14 billion investment to modernize it ahead of the 2028 Olympics.
The project includes a new automated transportation system that will connect the terminals to three new external stations. This change promises to reduce congestion and facilitate access to public transportation.
The world's largest car rental center is also being built, with capacity for 18.000 vehicles. Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5 are also undergoing renovations to offer greater comfort and security to passengers.
Tesla's gigantic Giga Texas factory
Tesla is expanding its production of electric vehicles. Just outside Austin, Texas, the company is building Giga Texas, one of the largest factories in the United States.
The unit has a built area of over 929.030 m², the equivalent of 1.545 football fields. This megastructure will be responsible for manufacturing the Cybertruck and the Tesla Semi, two models that promise to revolutionize the automotive market.
Construction began in 2020 and is expected to reach a production capacity of 3.000 units per week by the end of 2022. The site is not just a factory. It represents an important step in the global transition to sustainable energy.
Construction of the new tunnel under the Hudson River
The Hudson Tunnel is one of the most anticipated projects to improve transportation between New Jersey and Manhattan. With an investment of US$16 billion, the project involves the construction of a new railway tunnel and the renovation of the existing tunnel, which was damaged by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
The new tunnel will be 2,6 kilometers long and 8 meters in diameter. It is expected to be completed by 2035. After that, the current tunnel will undergo renovations and is expected to be completed in 2038.
This project is part of the Gateway Program, a larger plan to modernize rail transportation in the United States. The project will also create 95.000 jobs and boost the economy by $19,6 billion.
Penn Station Renovation with Moynihan Train Hall
New York City has gained a new transportation hub with the opening of the Moynihan Train Hall. The building, which is part of the former James A. Farley Post Office Building, underwent a $1,6 billion construction.
The station eases congestion at Penn Station and offers greater comfort for passengers. The project preserved the historic architecture of the site, including the stone façade and Corinthian columns, but introduced innovations such as a central atrium illuminated by a 28-foot skylight.
The new structure features commercial areas, food and an exclusive Amtrak lounge. The connection to the 8th Avenue subway has also been improved.
California's high-speed train
California is building the first high-speed rail line in the US. With an investment of US$80 billion, the project promises to connect San Francisco and Los Angeles in just 2 hours, drastically reducing travel time.
The trains will reach speeds of 350 km/h, making them a faster and more sustainable alternative to road and air transport. The first phase of construction began in 2015, and the initial section, which connects the Central Valley to Los Angeles, is expected to be completed by 2029.
In addition to reducing travel time, the project has a great environmental impact. It will reduce the number of cars and planes in circulation, reducing the emission of polluting gases. The train system is expected to generate thousands of jobs and boost the local economy.
