The construction of the Anita Garibaldi Bridge is a project that redefined the horizon of Laguna and changed the course of BR-101.

A construction of the Anita Garibaldi Bridge in Laguna, Santa Catarina, is one of those works that, if possible, would even deserve its own statue for Brazilian engineering! After all, it's not every day that the third largest bridge in Brazil is inaugurated, like this one, which not only defies physics, but also significantly improves the lives of thousands of drivers. Inaugurated in July 2015, the bridge has revolutionized traffic on BR-101 and enchanted everyone who crosses it.

A milestone in Brazilian engineering with the construction of the Anita Garibaldi Bridge

A Anita Garibaldi Bridge is part of a larger project, the duplication of BR-101 Sul, in Santa Catarina, being responsible for relieving the flow of more than 27 thousand daily vehicles, which previously faced traffic jams of up to 20 kilometers. The construction This bridge, which is the third largest bridge in Brazil, involved more than three years of intense work and the use of cutting-edge technology.

With a length of 2,8 kilometers, the Anita Garibaldi Bridge is unique in the world for being a curved cable-stayed bridge with central masts, a true masterpiece of engineering. Its total cost was R$777 million, financed by the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC).

Challenges and innovation in construction

The construction of the Anita Garibaldi Bridge was not simple. The structure has two 61-meter-high masts, supporting a 400-meter central span by means of 60 steel cables.. In total, 12.520 tons of steel and 97 thousand cubic meters of concrete were used, in addition to the participation of more than 1.800 employees during the peak of the works.

To ensure progress within the deadline, the consortium responsible for the work brought special equipment from Portugal, the BERD-LG50 truss launcher, which allowed the assembly of the staves (precast concrete blocks) more efficiently. This innovation even won international awards.

Anita Garibaldi Bridge brought a positive economic impact to the region

In addition to being a landmark for mobility, the Anita Garibaldi Bridge brought a positive economic impact to the region, generating more than 4.800 direct and indirect jobs. The construction was also awarded by the Chico Mendes International Institute for Research and Socio-Environmental Responsibility in 2013 for its sustainable practices. The work involved the reuse of materials and rigorous environmental monitoring, with emphasis on the preservation of areas of native vegetation.

The Anita Garibaldi Bridge is a clear example of how engineering can transform not only the physical landscape of a region, but also positively impact the economy and the environment. This construction will go down in history as one of the greatest achievements of Brazilian infrastructure., proving that when Brazil invests in innovation, the results are gigantic, literally.

And you, do you think that the Anita Garibaldi Bridge brought more benefits to mobility or to the economic development of the region?
