Contran updated regulations for the use of car audio and public transport: new legislation could impact drivers across the country
Stay tuned for new legislation! (Image: Reproduction)

The National Traffic Council (Contran) has implemented new rules that bring significant changes for drivers and public transport operators. With the publication of resolutions 624 and 625, scheduled to come into effect in November 2024, the rules have the main objective of reinforcing safety on Brazilian urban roads. The regulations provide specific restrictions on the use of car audio systems, as well as weight limits for public transport vehicles, and bring strict penalties for those who do not comply with these new criteria.

Resolution 624 of the National Traffic Council (Contran) brings important changes for drivers who use car audio systems in public areas. The new rule classifies as a serious infraction the use of car audio systems that exceed the permitted limits and cause a disturbance to public order, whether due to high volume or by disturbing people on the streets. Drivers who do not comply with this rule will be subject to a fine of R$195,23, in addition to receiving points on their National Driver's License (CNH). It is worth noting that the legislation makes exceptions for sounds coming from mandatory equipment, such as horns and alarms, and for vehicles duly authorized to carry out sound advertising or events.

With this measure, Contran seeks to regulate the use of car audio in order to balance the right to leisure with the tranquility of urban areas. Strict monitoring will allow authorities to quickly identify and punish drivers who abuse the volume of their car audio, especially in high-traffic areas.

Weight limits on public transport: what changes with Contran Resolution 625?

Another new feature in Contran regulations is Resolution 625, which is intended to strictly control the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of public transport vehicles. This standard aims to ensure that buses and other means of transport comply with the limits established in Resolution 210, in force since 2006.

According to Contran, weight control is essential for the safety of passengers and for the preservation of urban roads, avoiding excessive wear and tear caused by vehicles that circulate with loads beyond capacity.

Impacts on urban traffic: safety and infrastructure

The implementation of resolutions 624 and 625 will bring noticeable changes to the urban environment. Reducing the excessive use of car audio systems will contribute to a more peaceful atmosphere, especially in residential and commercial areas. Weight control in public transport vehicles aims to minimize damage to road infrastructure, preventing the appearance of potholes and other recurring road problems.

The role of Contran and inspection in implementing the new rules

For the new guidelines to have the desired effects, monitoring will be essential. Contran, in partnership with traffic authorities, will work to ensure that the resolutions are strictly enforced, reinforcing safer and more organized traffic.

The collaboration of drivers and operators will be essential to make traffic in Brazilian cities more harmonious, avoiding conflicts and promoting the well-being of all.

With these measures, Contran reaffirms its commitment to a transit safer and more civilized, always seeking a balance between individual rights and collective well-being.

Hahaha, with so much crime going on around here, and this crap comes along, why not worry about inspections on buses carrying cargo underneath or passengers? It's much more about filling up suitcases with cargo. I wonder where the taxes are at this time. These companies have been making a profit for a long time... why don't they inspect these so-called driving schools that don't produce anything other than freeloaders in the traffic, huh, and so on.

and yes, it is a crime. It just so happens that you are a rude person so you don't care about bothering others.

I liked it, I'm very happy with the measure. It's impossible to rest at night or during the day with so much noise that makes people even more anxious.

These rules are important, as they aim at social well-being! A newborn or bedridden elderly person cannot rest with very loud music (regardless of the style of music)! Congratulations!

They should create spaces for practicing this sport because just as there are people who don't like it, there are people who do, so it would be balanced for everyone. I just think it's a shame that politicians regulate rules that they don't comply with, for example, zero smoking, everyone is prohibited from smoking indoors but the majestic excellencies and etc... They close bars and restaurants to enjoy their cigarettes and Cuban cigars.
