Detran-SP recently announced the 2024 Licensing expiration dates. Check the specific dates for license plates this year and the different payment methods available.

On July 1st, Licensing 2024 began for the renewal of the CRLV in São Paulo. The document issued every year by the São Paulo Traffic Department (Detran-SP) It is mandatory for the circulation of vehicles. Payments are valid for new and used models and must be made by December, according to the end of the plate.

Understand how Plate Licensing works

O Vehicle Registration and Licensing Certificate (CRLV), popularly known simply as “car document”, is one of the most important documents for being able to drive. With it, you can drive with peace of mind, knowing that you are up to date with all of your vehicle's legal obligations and that you can prove it. Given such importance, it is normal for the 2024 licensing to raise many doubts. In this way, we will briefly clarify some information.

The CRLV issued by Detran SP and other states is the document that certifies that your vehicle, regardless of the category, is up to date with all obligations and can circulate smoothly. It contains information such as personal data, vehicle data, such as brand, model, year of manufacture, color, license plate, vehicle number, National Registry of Motor Vehicles (Renavam), data from IPVA and DPVAT.

The price of the CRLV will depend on the license plate fee in the state in which you live, as well as including that you are also up to date with your license plate. IPVA, all documents for Licensing and related expenses. It is important to remember that CRV and CRLV are different and, in short, we can say that the CRV is the car's registration and the CRLV is the permission for the car to circulate.

How much does the 2024 Detran-SP licensing cost?

The license plate fee this year is R$ 160,22, 3% higher compared to last year, when it cost R$ 155,23. Vehicles with license plates 1 and 2 must regularize their situation by the end of the month.

In this way, the owner who does not complete the 2024 Licensing commits a very serious infraction and receives seven points in the National Driving License (CNH) record.

Therefore, you will have to pay a fine of R$293,47, in addition, if the vehicle goes to the Detran-SP yard, the owner will need to pay the daily fees. Furthermore, licensing is blocked, as determined by the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB). Cars, buses, trailer vehicles and semi-trailers must be regularized on the following dates:

  • July: end of plates 1 and 2;
  • August: end of plate 3 and 4;
  • September: end of plate 5 and 6;
  • October: end of plate 7 and 8;
  • November: end of plate 9;
  • December: end of plate 0.
  • For trucks and tractors, the due dates are as follows:
  • September: end of plate 1 and 2;
  • October: end of plate 3, 4 and 5;
  • November: end of plate 6, 7 and 8;
  • December: final of plate 9 and 0.

How to make payment via internet?

It is possible to pay the licensing fee for Detran-SP license plates at lottery outlets, as well as at ATMs of some banks (Banco do Brasil, Bradesco, Caixa Econômica Federal, Itaú, Safra and Santander).

Likewise, it is possible to pay online. In this case, simply enter the National Motor Vehicle Registry (Renavam) number and pay the tax via internet banking or apps.

Finally, it is important to remember that the 2024 licensing becomes unavailable if there are outstanding issues on the vehicle. For example, open Motor Vehicle Property Tax (IPVA) debts, fines and late licensing fees.
