The State University of Tocantins (Unitins) has opened registrations for free English and Spanish courses. With a varied and community-oriented offering, these courses promise to enrich participants' CVs and offer quality training. Registration runs from June 28th to July 17th, 2024, guaranteeing a unique opportunity for those who want to improve their linguistic knowledge and obtain a recognized English certificate.

Unitins, through its Language Center, is offering a total of 300 places distributed between face-to-face and distance learning courses. In-person courses take place at Campus Graciosa, in Palmas, while online courses are taught via Google Meet. The courses offered include Basic English I and II, Basic Libras I and II, and Basic Spanish I and II, in addition to Intermediate Spanish I, all with a course load of 60 hours per semester.

Vacancies are distributed according to the course and shift. For example, the Basic English I course has 40 places in the evening, while Basic English II offers 30 places in the afternoon. The Libras and Spanish courses follow the same structure, with both in-person and distance learning options, ensuring flexibility for students. This diverse offer meets the needs of different audiences, from high school students to education professionals and members of the external community.

In addition to English and Spanish courses, Unitins also offers Libras courses, further expanding the linguistic training offering. These courses are essential for anyone who wants to learn a new language or improve their knowledge, guaranteeing a certification that can be a differentiator on their CV.

The free English and Spanish courses offered by the Unitins Language Center for the 2024/2 academic semester are:

  • Basic English I: 40 places, evening (in-person and distance learning)
  • Basic English II: 30 places, afternoon (in-person) and evening (EAD)
  • Libras Basic I: 40 places, evening (in-person)
  • Libras Basic II: 30 places, evening (in-person)
  • Basic Spanish I: 40 places, evening (EAD)
  • Basic Spanish II: 30 places, evening (EAD)
  • Intermediate Spanish I: 30 places, evening (EAD)

Who can participate

To participate in the courses, candidates must meet certain requirements. The courses are open to students regularly enrolled at Unitins, technical-administrative employees, teachers, Unitins graduates, high school students, education professionals and the community in general. Candidates must also pay attention to the registration deadline and payment of the registration fee of R$ 210,00.

In addition, Unitins is offering scholarships that waive the registration fee for candidates in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability. To request an exemption, interested parties must prove their situation through CadÚnico and fill in the exemption request field in the Unitins Competitions and Selection system by July 8, 2024. Requests will be analyzed between the 9th and 10th. July, with the publication of the preliminary list of recipients on July 11th.

Candidates for English courses, in particular, should pay attention to the selection criteria. Priority will be given to those who are most socioeconomically vulnerable, in addition to other criteria such as the order of registration. Classes are scheduled to begin on August 5, 2024, ending on December 6, 2024. Enrollment must be completed between July 19 and 21, upon payment of the registration fee.

Registration

Enrollment in courses will only take place after payment of the registration fee, and if the number of registrants exceeds the number of places, a reserve register will be formed. The courses are an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to learn English or Spanish, obtain a recognized English certificate and improve their professional opportunities.
