Donald Trump announces plan to build an “Iron Dome” in the USA, a type of “giant umbrella” inspired by the Israeli defense system. The proposal aims to protect American territory from possible attacks and is one of the main points of his presidential campaign.

In a turn of events that promises to shake up the presidential race in the United States, Donald Trump announced his intention to build an “Iron Dome” if he wins the elections.

The surprising announcement was made in the early hours of Friday (19), during a Republican Party convention.

Inspired by Israel's renowned missile defense system, Trump said the project aims to ensure that no enemy can attack North American territory.

A defense system inspired by Israel

Trump highlighted that the “Iron Dome” will be built entirely in the United States, following the model of the Israeli system, used since 2011.

“We want an anti-missile defense system that guarantees the security of our homeland. And this great Iron Dome will be built entirely here,” Trump declared during the event.

The Israeli system has gained notoriety in recent months due to the conflict with Palestine, showing its effectiveness in intercepting attacks.

What is Israel’s “Iron Dome”?

The “Iron Dome” is an anti-missile defense system developed by Israeli companies Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries, with support from the United States.

It was specially created to combat rudimentary weapons such as rockets, and is designed to detect and intercept missiles at a range of four to 70 km. Using a projectile called Tamir, the system shoots down missiles before they can cause damage.

Main Features of the “Iron Dome”:

  • Development: Created by the companies Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries, with US support.
  • Purpose:: Designed to combat rudimentary weapons such as rockets.
  • Range and Interception: Detects missiles launched at a range of four to 70 km and shoots them down with Tamir projectiles.
  • Organization: Composed of batteries, each with three to four launchers that can fire 20 interceptor missiles.
  • Versatility: It has fixed and mobile versions, allowing the detonation of missiles from mobile or stationary units.
  • Effectiveness: The Israeli army claims the system has a 75% to 90% success rate in interception attempts.
  • Cost: Estimated at 50 thousand dollars per shot.
  • History: Developed over three decades, it was used for the first time in 2011, during a conflict in the Gaza Strip.
  • US support: Since 2019, the United States has increased investment in the system, even purchasing “Iron Dome” batteries.

The “Iron Dome” began to be developed during conflicts in the Israeli region in the 1990s and 2000s, but was only used in combat in 2011.

Since then, its effectiveness has been widely recognized. The Israeli army reports a 75% to 90% success rate in interceptions, demonstrating the system's ability to protect civilians and infrastructure.

In recent years, US support for the “Iron Dome” has increased significantly. Since 2019, the US not only invested more in the system, but also acquired “Iron Dome” batteries to reinforce your own defense. This partnership reinforces confidence in the system and the possibility of adapting it to protect American territory.
