A driver tried to avoid a speeding ticket by adopting an unusual strategy: he repainted his vehicle in an attempt to fool traffic cameras. The action, however, was discovered by authorities, who are now investigating the case as an attempted fraud.
A French driver tried to escape a hefty fine by using a method unusual: repainting his vehicle. The man is accused of painting his Porsche 911 of another color after being caught speeding and ignoring a police order to stop.
The high-speed escape to avoid a fine
The incident took place on June 2 last year in southwestern France. Police were using radar to monitor speeds on the highway, which had a speed limit of 80 km/h. A bright green Porsche 911 was spotted going 188 km/h.
The speed drew immediate attention. A nearby police team was called to intercept the vehicle.

However, when they signaled for the driver to stop, he continued accelerating and passed the police officers. Unable to note the license plate, the officers were only able to report the model and color of the car.
The surprise at the police station
Since the green Porsche was unusual in the area, police soon identified a suspect. When he was called to the station, officers found a surprise: the car was now gray.
The 40-year-old man said he could not be responsible, claiming he had a flat tire on the day of the incident and that his car was not used.
Even so, the police decided to investigate further. During the inspection of the vehicle, they found green paint stains still visible on some parts of the body.
They also discovered that the car had undergone a technical inspection days before the incident, still with its original color.
The technician responsible for the inspection confirmed that the vehicle was green at the time.
Partial confession and consequences
Faced with the evidence, the driver ended up confessing that he had indeed driven above the speed limit and that he had tried to deceive the police by painting the car. However, he denied having disobeyed a direct order from the authorities and stated that he never saw the stop sign.
Police have seized the vehicle while the case remains under investigation. The identity of the driver has not been released for legal reasons.
The man could face serious consequences. According to French law, exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h can result in a fine of up to 1.300 euros, suspension of the driver's license and even confiscation of the car. In the event of disobedience and endangering the lives of third parties, the penalties increase to up to 15.000 euros and two years in prison.
