New gas station law promises to cause significant changes at stations in Ipiranga, BR, Shell and more
A new law arrives with everything at gas stations and promises to change your life of Brazilian drivers. Giants such as Ipiranga, BR, Shell and more are in the crosshairs of this ban, which aims to bring more transparency and security when it comes to refueling. See all the details below.
At the end of 2023, a new law was announced and is already creating something to talk about among drivers and gas station owners. The new gas station law aims to implement a drastic change: the mandatory use of transparent hoses at fuel pumps. And those who will have to adapt are the big names in the sector such as Ipiranga, BR, Shell and more.
New gas station law
The idea behind this new gas station law is very clear. According to deputy Jeferson Rodrigues (Republicanos-GO), author of Bill 3325/23, the proposal wants to allow the consumer clearly see the type and quantity of fuel being placed in the tank. This aims to prevent fraud and ensure more honest and transparent service.

According to the proposal, if this new gas station law is approved, stations will have 180 days to exchange their current hoses for transparent versions. Those who fail to comply may face a hefty fine, ranging from R$10 to R$100, and even face suspension or revocation of their operating license.
Measure is being analyzed
It does not stop there. This measure is being analyzed by the Mines and Energy, Consumer Protection, and Constitution and Justice and Citizenship committees. In other words, there is still a way to go before it actually becomes law. But many consumers are already eager to see this new gas station law in action, believing it will bring more confidence when filling up their vehicles.
Ipiranga, BR, Shell and more stations will have to prepare for this possible change. Transparency at pumps can be a big win for consumers, but it also represents a logistical and financial challenge for stations.
While the new gas station law is still in the analysis phase, the discussion is already boiling. Drivers and consumers hope that, if approved, this law will bring more safety and transparency when refueling. And the big names like Ipiranga, BR, Shell and more need to pay attention and prepare for this possible revolution at gas stations.
