IMD launches initiative to combat shortage of professionals in the technology sector. Institution opens hundreds of vacancies in free IT courses. Learn how to participate in IT courses and work in the field.
The Instituto Metrópole Digital (IMD/UFRN), aiming to combat the shortage of professionals in the market, recently launched a notice for a selection process for its new class of free IT (Information Technology) courses, with entry in 2025. In total, there are 580 vacancies in IT courses for the Natal hub, aimed at candidates who are studying or have completed high school.
How will the free IT courses be taught?
With a focus on combating the shortage of professionals in the IT market, the free courses have a basic module common to all entrants and then the training unfolds into several emphases in the following areas: Computer Science for the Internet, Computer Networks, Digital Game Programming, Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence.
Free IT courses operate in a hybrid format: In the first semester, teaching will be mostly remote, with scheduled face-to-face meetings. From the second semester onwards, however, while some of the courses will remain hybrid, others will have daily face-to-face classes.

Two new features will mark this IT course selection process, according to the coordinator of IMD Technical Courses, Professor Marcel Oliveira. The first is the opening of opportunities for broad competition, after two years with opportunities available to students from the public school system.
The second is that the students approved in this selection process will be the first to be offered the new Artificial Intelligence (AI) emphasis, along with other pre-existing ones. By offering technical training in Artificial Intelligence, IMD is fulfilling its role of always being at the forefront of training in the IT area. Two years ago, the Internet of Things course was launched and now it is launching the AI course.

Understand the shortage of professionals in the IT market
The information technology market in Brazil faces a challenge, which is the growing shortage of qualified professionals. A report by Google for Startups, from 2023, predicts that Brazil will have a deficit of 530 thousand IT professionals by 2025. This deficit is due to an imbalance between the job supply and the availability of talent.
One of the main causes is the increasing demand for technological services and solutions. As companies in various segments seek to digitalize and adopt new technologies, the need for professionals in areas such as software development, information security, data analysis and network infrastructure increases.
Stop with this clickbait news that makes people want to change areas thinking that they will have opportunities in the IT area and that is not the reality. There is not a shortage of people in the IT area, there is even too much. Just look at the vacancies on LinkedIn, all with more than 100 applications in less than 1 hour.
What is lacking is qualified labor, and that is the point: the IT area has to spend a lot of time studying and continuous study. If you think that coming to this area is synonymous with earning a lot and doing little, you are going to the wrong place.
Besides, some positions demand a lot and offer little, they require certifications that cost around 7k, but offer 2k for an Analyst position, for example... They want Itil, Agile, Scrum, AWS, Cisco, which are not cheap, but basically offer minimum wage. So, I agree with you, professionals, there are, and the well-qualified ones sometimes give up on the position in the interview, when they see that the salary is much lower than what they demand, they want an excellent professional, for a mediocre price...
It's really tough. It seems like people won't leave home for less than R$20 a month. We have vacancies that will celebrate their anniversary in February...
I graduated in IT in Brazil and they let me do an internship because I didn't sleep with the professor and they boycotted my TCC because I didn't sleep with the **** and the whole group. I've been unemployed for almost 20 years and my ex pulled the plug on my PC and I use a J6 which crashes a lot, it's hard to type this text and I'll be homeless in a few days and I'll end up dying because I caught a skin disease when I was in college, I don't know where, and doctors only told me to cook zucchini. The oldest and most intelligent teacher said that I was the best student and that I left everyone else in the dust and had tremendous potential. But everyone stopped me and then life went on, I never had parents or a job or the means to pay for these courses, I only know that at age 2 I knew physics, at age 3 I fixed electronics by myself with tape, at age 4 I learned German by myself even though I could barely write, Latin at age 9, fluent English in 4 months at age 11 to 12 and in total I understand and speak 13 languages, I am an artist and I won years ago when there were still computers, 5 international titles in drawing and art in first place, I designed a program that they said was the best program and I created Pinterest 14 years before it existed but the PC broke and I was left without internet and a bunch of **** locked me in a little house for years I called the police who hung up on me saying it was a prank and I went to 31kg. A lot of bad things, bad people ruined my life, my ex-mother-in-law even broke my electric gothic guitar, because I used to have a Japanese and European death metal band with covers and my own music and I sang and played and people liked it when I went live I liked it too, I wrote lyrics anyway, I was born with some gifts but everything went wrong. I worked for a living that asked me to steal from clients and I refused, I said I would work honestly and even though I answered technical SAC in 3 languages I earned less than 200 reais a month and after years they fired me because I became deaf from the infection of the lack of hygiene in the company and they retired me and 10 years later they removed my employment record. I spent all these years taking free courses to earn the minimum to pay rent and survive, and I'm a woman, I left SP because it was too expensive after the pandemic I almost died of hunger again there, in Paraná ALL jobs as a maid or hotel/anything pay 1600-1900 at least and usually 2400-3800 for restaurants or cutting chicken, but I tried and came out purple with illness and I couldn't work and the doctor refused to let me touch it. Without money to buy the expensive ointment to treat the disease, my body can't take it anymore. But I wouldn't have the courage to pay for expensive courses to earn 2 thousand. But if you give me a borrowed laptop, pay rent of 1500 which is the average here + internet, water and electricity, I do training and accept to work for 2 thousand for 2-3 years because I have few days left of housing and I earn 100 reais a month, I can't pay rent, water and electricity. My contact spardakonekosama. Please don't complicate things when the cell phone crashes a lot. I doubt you will take this seriously because nobody values me in Brazil, they even chase me away from the bakery for being injured, but I can work from home. I think it's ridiculous to pay someone who spent years studying and paid a fortune for courses, but I would like to stay alive to save 20 thousand to go to the Albert Einstein hospital.
