LEGO-inspired bricks bring innovation to construction, being 23 times stronger than concrete and withstanding incredible winds

Construction with a sustainable perspective is increasingly stronger, and is developing with modern innovations. Inspired by children's plastic blocks, a North American company is emerging to compete with innovative ecological bricks as a building material for houses of the future, with excellent expectations of replacing concrete.

What will the bricks of the houses of the future look like?

Toys from the Lego factory inspired these modern blocks, but with a characteristic that the originals did not have: ecological awareness. This is how these revolutionary bricks are lighter, more resistant and made from recycled material.

Renco MCFR (fiber-reinforced mineral composite) is the name of this new brick from the company and is the philosopher's stone for the houses of the future, which have already begun to be built since the company obtained its official certification in 2019.

The complex structures of this new construction system are the product of technological innovation, robotics and the reusable components that make up these stackable bricks to be used in buildings and housing complexes of the future.

RENCO co-founder Thomas P. Murphy, after being awarded the 2023 BLT Built Design Awards celebrated in Lucerne, Switzerland, demonstrated their pride in a product that contributed to a simpler and more respectful construction system for the planet.

Technical characteristics of the Lego building brick

Renco's patented innovation combines recycled plastic and glass fibers, resin and stone in its composition. The perfect combination of these elements provides resistance 23 times greater than concrete, with a weight of less than 3,5 kg.

The material obtained from the mixture of recycled ingredients is resistant to water, repellent to mold and moisture formation, as well as fire, corrosion and termites. Therefore, it has excellent properties to replace concrete, steel and wood in construction.

The homes of the future will withstand adverse weather conditions robustly, as these bricks have passed ASTM and TAS testing, which certifies their ability to withstand winds of 275 MPH and even Category 5 hurricanes.

They are ecological both in their manufacture and in the final stage of the work, leaving no residue or gas emissions or annoying noise from machinery. The bricks that build the houses of the future are intertwined with each other using a special methyl methacrylate adhesive and without mortar.

State-of-the-art technology used for these ecological bricks

After eight years of analysis and efficiency tests, the certified brick uses compression molding techniques and the pultrusion process to build a block-by-block structure in walls, beams, floors, etc. in a short space of time.

The factory has two lines of blocks, residential and commercial, which differ in their measurements according to the nature of the building under construction. The homes of the future utilize simplicity in their designs, employing color systems for their plans.

This simple form of planning solves the problem of the shortage of qualified labor, allowing people to understand and carry out a construction project according to their skills and experience.

Additionally, this feature contributes to reducing the financial costs of the work, with fewer workers hired, without additional machinery or construction materials. The homes of the future are more affordable and environmentally friendly.

In addition to contributing to a more sustainable world, the houses of the future have obtained certification for their use throughout the world according to the International Building Code (IBC). The company has already built complex buildings using this construction model in record time and is more affordable than traditional construction in Florida, and is now awaiting its expansion.
