Efficiency in the Maritime Transport sector was highlighted in a delegation composed of businessmen from the Port of Santos and Foreigners

With the implementation of new technology blockchain in the maritime sector, a great advance in quality, cost reduction and less loss of time in processes is expected.

A new moment is expected for the maritime transport of cargo and port activities in Brazil, the sector is preparing to receive blockchain technology that will guarantee the reduction of costs, more agility in processes, saving time and generating greater efficiency for the port sector.

Earnings will be possible according to technology blockchain, which has already been used, mainly in the monitoring of commercial navigation. It is estimated that in the next 10 years, these tools will become a reference and be used throughout the maritime segment.

In meetings last Thursday (12), North American specialists spoke to businessmen of the Port of Santos and authorities of the port system in Brazil, the great impact that this technology can cause in the port and navigation sectors.

The group of businessmen is part of the Porto & Mar 2019 entourage, which in recent days has made technical visits to the Port of Houston and, last Thursday (12th) visited the technological hub of Austin. Brazilian authorities are looking in detail at two systems based on blockchain technology.

How the system develops

The technology implies the analysis of enormous amounts of information on objects (eg, cargo) and processes (maritime transport), in a safe way and with zero risk of data being defrauded, as each modification made to the system is registered, generating a new version. with each change.

In the last 3 years IBM has been developing a system blockchain to reduce time and costs in international container shipping. The principle of the idea is to digitize the documents that are necessary for import and export cargo services, for example, and include them in a safe and transparent digital environment. This system displays the period of time that each step of the activity needs to be completed. In principle, this project was named Tradelens and had the help of one of the leaders in container shipping, Maersk.

According to the first tests carried out, it was possible to verify a reduction of between 10% and 20% in the time spent on services and from 5% to 7% in the cost of operations.

The visit to the Port of Houston is a way for Brazilian workers to prepare for the new phase and take advantage of opportunities in the segment.

Observation made by the mayor of Santos, Rui De Rosis, where, alongside businessmen from Santos and a representative of the Federal Government in recent days, he saw up close the installations of the port and the technological center of Austin (a city close to Houston).

The president of the Legislative of Santos mentioned the importance of technological development and how the application in infrastructure allows the growth of operations in the port of Houston, in Texas.
