The sale of the building where Eike Batista worked is being sold for administrative purposes by the State of Rio de Janeiro
The former home of businessman Eike Batista, in the Francisco Serrador building, in Cinelândia, located in the center of Rio de Janeiro, which has been looking for new residents for a long time, may have a new destination in the coming months. That's because the City Council of Rio de Janeiro has established a term of purchase option and should acquire it.
The documentation of the former “kingdom” of the entrepreneur is already in the hands of the Municipal Court of Auditors (TCM), and the Chamber has the preference for the purchase for two months, provided by the TCM. The estimated cost of the 23-story property, which covers approximately 25 square meters, is R$150 million, which would be paid with public money.
The objective is to bring together, in a single place, all the offices, commissions and administrative sectors that are divided into five other buildings, where three are rented at Praça Floriano and Avenida Treze de Maio. Altogether, they cost BRL 6 million per year.

Problems in Eike Batista's building
However, even with the sale of the building, it is not free of problems, considering that in the Pedro Ernesto Palace, Rio de Janeiro, the Chamber lists several defects in the electrical and hydraulic installations, deteriorated facades with risk of falling and also declared that it will be necessary invest R$ 33 million in the recovery of properties.
In addition, the Chamber of Councilors says there is still no space, for example, for the 26 committees of the house. Next year, the Pedro Ernesto Palace turns 100 years old and the councilors' idea is to return it to the city on this symbolic date, turning the site into a cultural center and handing over the annex building to the city hall, which could turn it into a residential property.
However, this whole "dream" will depend on a lot of negotiation and already this Wednesday (30), the plenary of the Municipal Court of Auditors should meet to discuss the proposal. Three directors have already voted in advance for not impeding the acquisition of the property.
future procedures
In the first week of December, the board of leaders of the Chamber should meet to detail the conditions of the proposed sale of Eike Batista's building, in Rio de Janeiro.
The Chamber of Rio said, in a note, that the purchase of Eike's old house will be made with resources saved by the current management of the house, which will pass on more than R$ 70 million this year to the health of Rio de Janeiro.
According to the Chamber, the current building that belonged to Eike Batista will be donated to the city hall for the construction of popular housing and the Pedro Ernesto Palace will be transformed into a cultural center open to the population.
