Accelerated depreciation of models such as Renault Kwid E-Tech and Peugeot e-2008 generates losses for initial buyers
A purchase of a new vehicle, especially electric, has revealed financial traps for Brazilian consumers. Models launched with high prices have been suffering drastic reductions in just a few months, resulting in significant losses for those who bought in initial marketing phase, according to the Uol website.
Kwid E-Tech has lost almost half its value in three years
The Renault Kwid E-Tech vehicle, for example, arrived on the market in August 2022 with suggested price of R$142.990. Currently, it is sold for R$ 99.990. In the used market, a unit of the 2022/2023 model is valued at around R$72 thousand, which represents a devaluation of almost 50% in three years.
Another example is the Renault Megane E-Tech, launched for R$279.990, whose price has already been reduced to up to R$199.900 in promotional actions. The Peugeot e-2008 went from R$259.990 to R$159.990 at the end of 2023, which boosted its sales, but also impacted the resale value.

Electric car pricing strategy is the target of criticism
Experts point out that the The problem with electric vehicles is in the strategy launch with excessive prices, often positioning the vehicles in segments higher than they actually occupy. For the automotive consultant Milad Kalume Neto, the market overestimated the added value of some models, which resulted in the rapid need for adjustments.
The Jeep Compass 4xe also faced difficulties. Launched in 2022 for R$ 349.990, had its price reduced to R$ 243.390 before being withdrawn from the market after just 836 units sold in the country. Fierce competition among plug-in hybrids was pointed out by the automaker as one of the main factors of low adherence.
Chinese competition accelerates price adjustments
The presence growing number of Chinese automakers with local production and technological expertise — especially in batteries — has put pressure on prices in the national market. With more affordable models and competitive cost-benefit, these brands force traditional rivals to review their margins.
The early devaluation of electric vehicles shows that consumers should act with caution when considering newly launched models. The expectation of price appreciation or stability may not be confirmed in a market that is still being formed and subject to rapid changes.
Did you generalize all other brands with Renault and Peugeot with their obsolete designs??? LOL. And come on, except for the diesel line (I think), which other car doesn't lose less than 10% by the time you register it??? (I was generous with the 10%, I think).
In reality, we are talking about a bunch of corrupt idiots who put absurd prices on cars, thinking it is normal for a person to have to pay 5 thousand reais, 6.. 7 or even more in IPVA. A mafia!
Despite the unimportance of these brands in Brazil, in Europe they are major players. We are talking about European projects. The Megane and the 2008 are not obsolete, the Kwid, perhaps. But it is clear that you are talking about different things: the report is about the reduction in the value of new vehicles, even if it impacts the price of used ones, and you are talking about simple depreciation.
This is because they want to make absurd profits from the consumer, so with the arrival of BYD they have to lower their profit margin.
This was to be expected, especially when it comes to vehicles…
Good for those who knew how to wait…
