Elon Musk clarifies rumors about the launch of a Tesla cell phone and points out possible scenarios for entering the smartphone market.

Elon Musk denies rumors: No Tesla cell phone (for now)
During the interview, Elon Musk made it clear that Tesla is not currently developing any smartphones. Despite being an innovative company, with projects ranging from electric cars to humanoid robots, a Tesla smartphone is not part of the company's plans.
“It would be possible to create a phone, since our operating system is based on Linux, with a lot of additional software. But that's not in our plans right now," Musk said.

Despite this, he admitted that Tesla is in a unique position to develop something that can rival market giants like Android and iPhone. The reason? The technology and innovation expertise that the company already has in-house. But for that to happen, something very specific would need to motivate this decision.
When could a Tesla cell phone surface?
According to Musk, Tesla would only consider launching a smartphone if things really got out of hand in the app market. He cited as an example an incident in 2022, when Apple threatened to remove Twitter (now called X) from the App Store. Although the threat never came to fruition, Musk sees these actions as a possible trigger for a new product.
“If companies like Apple or Google start censoring apps or acting as gatekeepers in an excessive way, we would consider building our own phone,” Musk explained.
In other words, if one day the big players start to limit access to certain platforms, Tesla's cell phone could become a reality to ensure that users have more freedom.
Starlink and partnership with T-Mobile
Even though Tesla's phone is still out of the question, Elon Musk isn't completely out of the communications market. During the interview, he talked about SpaceX's partnership with T-Mobile to bring Starlink satellite technology directly to cell phones. This project promises to revolutionize connectivity, allowing mobile devices to access the internet directly from space.
But don't worry, this won't happen tomorrow. According to Musk, the launch of this service should only take place in 2025. Still, it's further proof that Tesla and its sister companies, such as SpaceX, are always looking to the future.
Why does Elon Musk prefer to focus on other projects?
