The job market faces constant challenges, and workers' rights are not always respected. Recently, reports have suggested that a company had created a scheme to fire experienced employees without paying severance pay.

A Chinese company faces serious allegations after reports it tricked around 200 senior employees into firing them without pay indemnities.

The case generated great repercussions and raised debates about labor practices in the country, with criticism of the tactics adopted by some companies to reduce costs with contract terminations.

Employees lured into 'prohibited activities'

O Wuhan CITIC Design Institute, a company based in Hubei province, has reportedly devised a plan to get rid of senior employees with high salaries.

According to reports, a senior manager at the company was tasked with luring these workers into compromising situations.

According to some of the affected employees, they were invited to bars and clubs under the pretext of “after-hours relaxation".

There, the manager encouraged them to interact with companions and participate in games of chance.

Some have intentionally lost money to please their superiors, without suspecting that they were being manipulated.

Others reported being exposed to embarrassing situations that could be used against them later.

Evidence used for dismissal

With the alleged evidence gathered, the manager reported the events to the company's management.

Employees were then dismissed without compensation, under the allegation of involvement in prohibited activities.

Local sources estimate that approximately 200 workers were laid off in this manner.

The strategy sparked outrage on social media. Many pointed out that, in addition to losing their jobs, those fired would have difficulty finding new opportunities due to their tainted record.

Experts say this practice not only harms the workers directly affected, but also creates an environment of fear and insecurity among other employees.

Questionable labor practices

Experts point out that this approach is unusual, but not unprecedented in China.

Companies often review employees' criminal records to look for any irregularities that could justify dismissal without compensation.

There are reports of companies falsifying job offers to convince “problem” employees to resign voluntarily.

Another common tactic involves abrupt organizational restructurings, in which entire departments are dissolved to eliminate long-time employees without offering severance.

Some companies also impose impossible targets or change contractual conditions to force voluntary departures.

. Workers and unions have called for more transparency in layoffs and harsher punishments for companies that adopt abusive strategies.

So far, the company has not officially commented on the allegations.
