Green Fleets and Freights 2024 event discusses strategies to strengthen the CNG market, focusing on heavy vehicles and competitive rates.
No Green Fleets and Freight Event 2024, held in São Paulo, leaders from several natural gas distribution companies in the Southeast were present to discuss the future and strengthening of the NGV market. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to share experiences and explore innovative strategies that encourage the use of NGV in heavy vehicles, as well as discuss more competitive rates that can make NGV an option even more attractive.
The introduction of new technologies and the adoption of sustainable policies were central themes of the event. The use of Vehicular natural gas as an efficient energy source was widely supported by participants, who see NGV as a viable and cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuels. With this approach, it is expected not only to reduce environmental impact, but also to offer significant financial and operational benefits to fleets that adopt this fuel. In addition, the engagement of distributors is crucial to ensure that NGV becomes a protagonist in the current scenario of sustainable mobility.
Meeting of Representatives in Favor of Natural Gas
Important representatives from the host companies, including Comgás, ESGás, Necta, Naturgy and Gasmig, participated. SCGás, the distributor for Santa Catarina, played a special role in the meeting, presenting to industry colleagues a new natural gas tariff aimed at fleet operators.

The meeting brought to the table a variety of crucial topics for this sector, with the main agenda being joint actions for the market strengthening of CNG. The focus was especially on increasing the use of the energy in heavy vehicles, while highlighting the advantages of the fuel for light vehicles.
Strategies and Innovations for the Natural Gas Market
Among the topics discussed were compliance issues and the sharing of strategic information, such as sales volumes, potential customers and contractual aspects. In addition, strategies were raised for market expansion and technological innovations that benefit the CNG consumer.
During the meeting, they also discussed contacts with Abegás to access sales data and industry bulletins, the creation of applications aimed at locating stations that offer Natural Gas for Vehicles, especially on highways. In addition to considering the possibility of carrying out fairs and events with joint sponsorships and the insertion of CNG stations in GPS applications, such as Waze.
Raising Awareness and Expanding Knowledge
One highlight was the proposal to hold a new economy rally, aiming to raise public awareness about the multiple advantages of natural gas. The idea is for this initiative to take place in collaboration with renowned educational institutions, such as USP, UFMG, UFRJ and Unicamp.
Managers also expressed significant concern about the need for a public consultation organized by the Regulatory Agency of the State of Rio de Janeiro. The objective of this consultation is to address the delicate issue of possible fraud in the measurement of natural gas, which affects confidence in the sector.
Impact of Tariff Reduction and Pricing Policy
With all these initiatives, distributors hope not only to increase the use of energy, but also to strengthen their image as an efficient and sustainable alternative for various forms of transportation.
In Minas Gerais, according to Welder Souza, Natural Gas Vehicle Sales Manager, the reduction in the CNG tariff, announced in early November, promises to have a direct impact on prices charged at gas stations. This should increase competitiveness against traditional fuels such as ethanol, diesel and gasoline, thus reducing costs for drivers and companies that depend on CNG in their truck fleets.
Welder highlighted that the pricing policy is in line with the guidelines established by the State Government, seeking to contribute to improving the quality of life of Minas Gerais residents.
Contributions from New Natural Gas Tariffs
The benefits generated by the reduction in natural gas tariffs should be immediately perceived by consumers. 'Drivers will feel the savings in their pockets when refueling,' he said, referring to the pricing policy. Additionally, he mentioned that, according to SEDE Resolution No. 53, dated 28/12/2023, linking the tariffs for Natural Gas for Vehicles and Compressed Natural Gas for Vehicles to competitiveness in relation to gasoline, Gasmig will apply an additional discount of R$0,15/m³.
This movement provides significant savings, over 30% for light vehicles and over 20% for heavy vehicles, thus consolidating the image of CNG as an economical and competitive fuel in the current market.
