Petrobras freezes the diesel price increase for 15 days, but the news is not enough to prevent the truck drivers' strike scheduled for the 30th of this month.
The leader of the truckers, Wallace Costa Landim, believes that the news that the Petrobras will keep the price of diesel frozen for at least 15 days is still not enough to avoid a truck drivers' strike, about to explode at any moment, under the leadership that appears on social networks. He claims not to be in favor of the movement, but that there are 15 to 20 groups articulating the strike on Whatsapp that are beyond the control of union leaders.
The class understands that the main commitments assumed by the Michel Temer government last year are not being fulfilled. In the agenda of claims, the first claim is about the minimum floor of the freight table, where truck drivers claim that companies are not respecting the minimum value. The second item on the agenda is the value of diesel oil, truck drivers want the government to establish a monthly readjustment, and no longer daily. "They question having to pay for diesel in dollars, in view of Petrobras' exorbitant profits".

In order to present the claim agenda, Landim met with government representatives, one of the meetings was on the 15th, with the Minister of Civil Affairs Onyx Lorenzoni and also with the National Board of Land Transport (ANTT) and on Friday, the 22nd , met with the executive secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Marcelo Sampaio.
This Tuesday, the 26th, amid rumors of the strike, Petrobrás announced that it will keep prices frozen for at least 15 days and that it will create a card for truck drivers that could mean benefits to consumers. “90% of the category supported Bolsonaro's election. Now we wait for an answer. Petrobras does not respond 100% to our claims, but it demonstrates that the government is looking for mechanisms to respond to us”, said Landim.
Landim announced that the movement has lost strength and that, if there is a strike, there will be occasional stoppages. Three States refuse to join the stoppage scheduled for the next 30th, they are Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul and Rio Grande do Norte.
The government wants to avoid, at all costs, that any kind of stoppage happens. It doesn't even want to face the same problem that stopped the country last year. For Landim, the federal government is mobilized to meet the demands of truck drivers. “Ministers said that by next week, President Jair Bolsonaro himself should speak out on the requests of truck drivers,” informed Landim.
According to the entity that brings together giants such as BR Distribuidora, Raízen (a joint venture between Cosan and Shell) and Ipiranga (of the Ultra Group), the biggest problem for truck drivers is the stagnation of sales, not the price of diesel.
