Eletrobrás maintains plans to start works in October of next year, so that the plant will start operating in 2026
The structuring of financing for the works of the Angra 3 nuclear power plant, in Angra dos Reis - RJ, should advance in early 2021, said last Thursday (13/08) the president of Eletrobras, Wilson Ferreira Júnior, during a press conference to detail the company's results in the second quarter.
Eletrobrás maintains plans to start the concreting and assembly works in October of next year, so that the plant will start operating in 2026.
According to the executive, the work on Angra 3 will follow two fronts. In a first moment, Eletrobras will implement a “critical path acceleration plan”, to leave Angra 3 in conditions to receive the “epecist” — a company that will finalize the construction of the work by EPC contract (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) .
- Asphalt? No way! The state is abandoning the material and betting on concrete for an unusual reason: the heat
- State will have an underwater tunnel worth more than 1 BILLION to revolutionize transportation forever! The date for the start of the works has already been set
- Construction of a colossal railway will create 6 THOUSAND jobs and revolutionize this Brazilian state
- Brazil, the country of trains? The government's railway plan foresees up to R$100 BILLION in investments for railways
The prospect is to publish the EPC public notice in August 2021, with the start of works on the EPCist in March 2022. "The bidding of an EPCist is the best way out, with greater return to shareholders", said Ferreira Júnior
For this phase of land preparation for the works, Eletronuclear received an advance of 2,5 billion reais to resume work on the Angra 3 nuclear power plant in 2021.
According to this plan, the Angra 3 works should receive a considerable share of investments. By 2024, the plant will gain resources totaling R$ 14 billion.

In the interview, Wilson Ferreira Júnior also stated that Eletronuclear will be controlled by a new state-owned company to be created by the government, if the capitalization of Eletrobras occurs. Today, the nuclear company is 100% controlled by Eletrobras. According to him, the expectation is that the private sector will be able to invest in the rest of the capital of the nuclear energy company
Last month, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) asked the Ministry of Economy for an additional BRL 4 billion in the 2021 Budget for the creation of this new state-owned company, which would be responsible for managing the Brazilian participation in Itaipu Binacional, Eletronuclear and in government programs for the electricity sector if Eletrobras is privatized
Asked about the financeability of Angra 3, he said that the project is 70% completed and that it is a “simple work to be financed”.
