CEFET – RJ launches the first distance learning Master’s degree in Brazil recognized by the MEC! The Celso Suckow da Fonseca Federal Center for Technological Education (CEFET/RJ) announced the selection process for the free Professional Master's course in Energy and Society (PPGES) for the 2025 academic year. There are 20 vacancies distributed across eight strategic research areas, such as sustainability, smart cities, biofuels and more. This is a free program, in the online (EAD) format, with face-to-face moments.

What is the objective of the course and its workload?
The master's degree aims to train professionals capable of proposing innovative solutions to energy and social challenges. It is aimed at those who wish to combine practice and research to impact the energy sector and society.

held in online modality (EAD) , the free course includes face-to-face sessions, usually on Fridays and Saturdays. The course load includes theoretical classes, seminars, group discussions and practical assessments. Participants carry out research linked to one of the eight themes of the program.
What are the available vacancies and topics?
There are 20 places available for the free course, distributed among the following research areas:
- Waste-based biorefineries and circular economy (3 vacancies).
- Use of biofuels and renewable hydrogen in transportation (3 vacancies).
- Education and Energy (2 vacancies).
- Sustainable management of freight transport (3 vacancies).
- Computational strategies for smart cities and industrial 4.0 (0 vacancies in this cycle).
- Transport and sustainable development (3 vacancies).
- Environment, sustainability and interdisciplinarity (3 vacancies).
- Perspectives on energy generation and use (3 vacancies).
The hubs and face-to-face meetings are centralized at the CEFET/RJ unit, in Rio de Janeiro.
How does the selection process work?
Secure your MEC certificate. The selection process has three stages: registration, document analysis and classification. The analysis will be based on:
- Research proposal.
- Updated Lattes CV.
- Academic record.
There are vacancies reserved for affirmative action: 25% for black, brown, indigenous or quilombola candidates and 5% for people with disabilities . The assessment also includes proof of English proficiency, via certification or test.
What are the requirements to participate in CEFET RJ courses?
To enroll in the first distance learning master's degree course recognized by the MEC, you must have an undergraduate degree in any field (bachelor's, licentiate or technologist). A research plan aligned with one of the program's themes is also required. Internet access and availability for face-to-face meetings are essential criteria.

- Inscrição: 13/12/2024 a 14/01/2025.
- Announcement of approved registrations: 20 / 01 / 2025.
- English test: 08 / 02 / 2025.
- Final result: 21 / 02 / 2025.
- Registration: 24/02/2025 a 27/02/2025.
- Beginning of classes: 17 / 03 / 2025.
