Galeão Airport ended the year 2022 with a historic record in cargo handling and was highlighted as an important engine for the economy of Rio de Janeiro. The airport saw an increase in the value of imported goods, reaching US$9,8 billion, an increase of 33% compared to 2019 and 15% compared to 2021.
At first, 55 thousand tons of imported and exported products were registered, in the airport from Galeão, representing a 7% increase in weight compared to 2021. According to Leandro Lopes, commercial manager at RIOgaleão Cargo, the air transport industries, oil & gas, pharmacist and chemist contributed to this excellent performance.
In this way, TAP Portugal, Air France, KLM and the cargo frequencies of Cargolux and Latam Cargo handled more than 60% of the volumes received at the terminal. According to Leandro Lopes, the return of the airline network at RIOgaleão allowed customers to be better served.
This contributed to the increase in cargo handling in 2022, even in the face of the challenges caused by the pandemic. The chemical segment was especially benefited by the air Transport due to capacity constraints in maritime transport.

Engine of Brazil's economy
Tom Jobim International Airport, in its concession since 2014, has contributed significantly to the Brazilian economy with a total value of imports of more than US$60 billion. The cargo terminal is responsible for a commercial air network and weekly freighter operations, in addition to customized customer service.
RIOgaleão Cargo has 55 m³ of bonded storage, 22 m³ of which are used for temperature-controlled cargo operations. Airport staff and equipment are prepared to meet legal cold chain requirements. However, there are custom solutions for large, valuable or dangerous products that need to be handled individually.
Thus, new information was announced about the galleon airport Cargo, which stands out for its operational efficiency in releasing cargo to importers. The terminal is also proud of the certificates it has won, such as CEIV Pharma from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Authorized Economic Operator (OEA) from the Federal Revenue Service, ISO 9001 and Good Practices Certificate from Anvisa.
