This format allows the professors develop an in-depth understanding of various artistic languages and improve their skills for classroom practice.
According to the MEC, the course was structured to serve educators who seek to integrate practice and theory, aiming to make arts teaching a more immersive and impactful process in students' lives.
One of the main objectives of the program is to train arts teachers with a critical and practical vision of education, emphasizing the importance of each artistic language in the integral development of students.
Arts teachers working in basic education with a degree recognized by the MEC can apply., and proof of experience in the area is a mandatory requirement for enrollment.
Institutions and distribution of vacancies
For the first semester of 2025, the program offers 296 places in higher education institutions (HEIs) participating in PROFARTES.
This distribution model is part of an effort by the MEC to facilitate access for teachers from different regions of the country.
Participating institutions, which include state and federal universities, adopt their own quota policies, expanding access to underrepresented groups.
Among the universities that will offer places for PROFARTES are:
- State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC): 12 vacancies
- Paulista State University (UNESP): 22 vacancies
- Federal University of Bahia (UFBA): 20 vacancies
- University of Brasilia (UNB): 32 vacancies
- Federal University of Ceará (UFC): 14 vacancies
- Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS): 19 vacancies
- Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG): 20 vacancies
These and other institutions, including universities in the North and Northeast regions, such as Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) and Regional University of Cariri (URCA), complete the program's national offering, expanding access to teachers from different contexts and educational realities.
MEC selection process
The PROFARTES selection process consists of two phases. The first stage includes the analysis of the Descriptive Memorial and the Research Project, both required of candidates as prerequisites for registration.
At this stage, the projects presented are evaluated by a panel that analyzes the relevance and coherence of the proposed content with the course profile.
The second phase consists of Argumentation Test, in which candidates orally defend their research project, demonstrating clarity about the content and alignment with the objective of PROFARTES.
According to the MEC, this selection structure aims to ensure that future master's students have a profile aligned with the course's focus, valuing the commitment to artistic education and the skills that candidates will bring to the classroom.

Why are there no vacancies for Rio Grande do Sul?
It is a shame that an opportunity like this does not include the city of Recife.
Why was there no vacancy at UFPR – SETOR LITORAL, one of the only universities with a Full Degree in Arts in Brazil… regrettable.
Here in Rio de Janeiro, we also don't have any associated HEIs. In other words, the fallacy of “all of Brazil” is blown out of the water! I've been following ProfArtes for a while now and there's never been an HEI here in Rio. I remember that there were applications for universities to join, but it seems that Rio was left out! How unfortunate!
Good morning! I am from the Private Network and would like to register, can I?
