Golf car abandoned for over a year and owner still unidentified. Learn more about this peculiar story
Parking at the airport can be a real challenge for your pocket, but a recent case in Germany has brought this issue to a head unexpected extreme. A Volkswagen Golf left behind for over a year at Berlin's Brandenburg Airport, and now accumulates a parking debt exceeding R$1,2 million, according to the CanalTech website.
The Golf vehicle, which appeared at the site since January 2024, was finally towed last Tuesday (11). If the owner of the Golf shows up to pick up the car, he will have to pay an astronomical bill, as a result of the rate of US$24 per hour (about R$144).
Mystery surrounds vehicle abandonment at airport
Local authorities They have not yet been able to identify the owner of the vehicle “abandoned” at the airport, nor the reasons why he was abandoned. The mystery increased when the police discovered that the Golf plates were registered trademarks for another vehicle, from Hannover.
The hypothesis that the vehicle was used in a criminal escape has been considered, mainly because they were found leftover food and a half-empty bottle of water inside the car, indicating a hasty abandonment.
Million dollar bill still needs to be paid
The airport administration expects someone to take responsibility for paying the accumulated daily rates, which total US$552 per day (around R$3,3). However, as the parking lot is private and not a public road, the authorities are in no rush to resolve the case.
Meanwhile, the Golf remains an unusual example of how a simple parking lot can turn into a million dollar debt . It remains to be seen whether the owner will show up — and whether he will be able to pay the bill. 🚗💰
