Pablo Marçal wants to move Brazil's capital to the Northeast and promises the greatest development in history. Is this change possible?
Pablo Marçal wants to move Brazil's capital to the Northeast and promises the greatest development in history. Is this change possible?

Pablo Marçal promises a revolution in Brazil: moving the capital to Maranhão and promoting the greatest development in the country's history. The idea has already generated intense debates and divided opinions, but does it have the potential to transform Brazil or is it just another campaign promise?

A transformation capable of rewriting the history of Brazil is being proposed by Pablo Marçal.

The candidate claims that his bold idea will change the country's destiny, bringing the greatest economic development Brazil has ever seen.

But, contrary to what many may imagine, this change will not only be political, but geographic.

The focus? The Northeast. The controversial candidate wants change the capital of Brazil to Maranhão, something never seen before in national history.

Pablo Marçal and the new capital

Second interview given to Poder360, Pablo Marçal, current candidate for Mayor of São Paulo in 2024, declared that, if elected President of the Republic in future elections, will transfer the country's capital to Maranhão.

The inspiration for this idea, according to him, comes from the great landmark that was the construction of Brasília in the 1960s, driven by Juscelino Kubitschek.

Marçal believes that the impact caused by the change of capital at the time was so great that the same can and should be replicated in the Northeast, especially in Maranhão.

“I'm going to tell you here for the first time where the capital of Brazil will go if I become president: it will go to Maranhão,” said Marçal, creating suspense and guaranteeing that the plan will create a new axis of economic development in Brazil.

Impacts of change

This transfer, according to Marçal, would bring to the Northeast the same kind of progress that Brasília provided to the Midwest.

He argues that, just as Brazil needed to expand its growth pole to the interior of the country in the 1960s, now the focus should be on the Northeast, one of the most unequal regions in Brazil.

“It was already in Rio de Janeiro. A guy managed to take it to central Brazil, he created a development axis, Brazil was only coastal. Juscelino Kubitschek built that city in 1.000 days and now it’s time for us to recover the Northeast”, argued the candidate.

Marçal's future and vision

Pablo Marçal reinforced that this project would not be definitive.

His plan is that, after the greatest development cycle in the country's history, the capital is transferred again, this time to the North of Brazil.

“And when I am mature enough and I am ready to take over the Presidency of the Republic, this will be my proposal: to take the capital to the Northeast and achieve the greatest development in the history of the country. Then, after 70 years, with someone with the courage of that time, take it to the North and complete this development of the country,” said the former coach..

According to him, this would be a way to ensure that all regions of Brazil, including the North and Northeast, benefit from investments in infrastructure and economic growth.

Who is Pablo Marçal?

Pablo Marçal, 37 years old, affiliated with the Brazilian Labor Renewal Party (PRTB), is known for his bold and often controversial proposals.

In 2022, he ran for President of the Republic for Pros, but his candidacy was blocked by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

Later, he tried for a seat in the Chamber of Deputies for São Paulo, where he received 243 thousand votes.

However, his candidacy was again annulled, which prevented him from taking up a seat in Congress.

Now he re-emerges on the political scene with the promise of changing the country's course in a drastic and unexpected way.

A controversial idea

Pablo Marçal's proposal generates heated debates between supporters and critics.

On the one hand, its followers see the idea as a necessary revolution to end regional inequality in Brazil.

Moreover, critics point out the economic and political unfeasibility of such a radical change.

The proposal to move the capital to Maranhão, however, highlights a crucial question: how to ensure balanced economic development in a country with such regional disparities?

What comes next?

If Pablo Marçal manages to make his proposal viable, it will be the first time that Brazil's capital will be moved to the Northeast, a region that has historically been left out of major national investments.

Marçal believes that the transfer of the capital could be the beginning of a new era for the Northeast, just as Brasília was for the Center-West.

But many question whether the idea is really viable or whether will be nothing more than another campaign promise destined to be forgotten.

The big question is: would this geographic and political change be able to transform Brazil and end regional disparities, or is it just another bold plan that will never see the light of day? Leave your opinion in the comments.

This guy is a kid, he doesn't even know what he's talking about if it's true. This is politics to generate votes in São Paulo, which is full of immigrants from the Northeast. Brasília is and always will be the capital of Brazil, it's strategic.😃
