The rules have not only been updated for older drivers, but also for drivers aged 18 and over. Check out the new rules below when renewing your driver's license:
– Drivers aged 18 to 49: the CNH must be renewed every 10 years;

Driver's license renewal process for drivers over 60 years old
Drivers over 60 can rest assured that the process of renewing their driver's license is simple and straightforward. However, there are some important steps that need to be followed. Check them out:
– The driver must access the website of the State Department of Transit (DETRAN) of the state of origin;
– Log in to the DETRAN website, using your CPF or CNPJ number and National Driver's License Registry (RENACH) number or password – this step may vary from state to state;
– Check and confirm your personal data and follow the instructions on the DETRAN website to apply for your driver's license;
In some cases, it is necessary to undergo medical and/or toxicological examinations, with payment of a fee to perform the required examinations. In the state of São Paulo, for example, the stage of performing medical and/or toxicological examinations is scheduled directly through the DETRAN-SP website and the payment of the fee is made directly at the doctor's office where the examinations will be performed.
It is important to note that, even if the driver is over 60 years old, he remains forbidden driving without a driver's license, subject to a light fine.

The CNH validity period was updated in 2021, as a way to adapt to new demands. Until 2020, the period for renewing the CNH was up to 5 years for drivers under 65 years of age, and 3 years for drivers over 65 years of age.
The decision was made by the federal government at the time, which also made several other changes to the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB), aiming to adapt the rules to the current reality of the country. - For drivers up to 49 years of age: CNH is valid for 10 years;
