Initiative led by GoVerde Energia will have an industrial park in Candeias and solar plants in five municipalities, consolidating Bahia as a hub for renewable energy and generation of new sustainable jobs.

Bahia has just positioned itself as one of the most strategic states for the national energy transition. The company GoVerde Energia signed a protocol of intentions with the State Government to invest R$9 billion in the production of clean energy through a mega-investment that will be divided into three phases and should generate up to 24 thousand direct and indirect jobs. The announcement was made this Wednesday (23) by the Secretariat of Economic Development of Bahia (SDE).

The new industrial park will be installed in the municipality of Candeias, metropolitan region of Salvador, and will be focused on production of green methanol, green ammonia, oxygen and solar energy. The factory will use cutting-edge technology imported from Germany and will focus on exports to the international market.

GoVerde's industrial park will be implemented in phases

The project structure is divided into three phases. In each phase, 50 direct jobs will be created at the factory and 20 at the power generation unit. In addition, GoVerde has committed to training local workers, with priority given to residents of Candeias.

The amount of R$9 billion will be divided between two main fronts: $ 5,4 billion destined for the industrial park in Candeias and $ 3,6 billion aimed at the construction of solar plants in the municipalities of The main attractions of Juazeiro are the city of Irece, the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul.. These locations were strategically chosen due to their high solar incidence, ensuring efficiency in energy generation.

Solar energy and green hydrogen position Bahia as a national reference

The solar park will have the capacity to generate up to 1,5 gigawatts (GW) per year, which represents a significant contribution to the state's renewable energy matrix. The production of clean energy will be essential to supply the plant and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, aligning the project with global environmental goals.

“A Bahia positions itself as a protagonist in green economy actions. We continue to attract companies aligned with this purpose and strategic geopolitical development”, highlighted the Secretary of Economic Development, Angelo Almeida.

The first phase of the plant foresees the production of 300 thousand tons of green methanol and ammonia per day, And 155 thousand tons of oxygen. The following phases will expand production by 200 tons per day each, consolidating the state as one of the largest hubs of renewable energy of the country.

Jobs and training are part of GoVerde's mega investment

Besides the megainvestment in infrastructure and innovation, the impact socioeconomic of the project draws attention. According to GoVerde, the project should generate 24 thousand jobs throughout the works and operation. The plan includes everything from direct hiring in technical areas to stimulating the local economy, with the generation of indirect jobs in the areas of services, transportation and food.

“Clean energy production is the way of the future. The methanol Verde is coming in to decarbonize an entire chain in the maritime and aviation sectors. We believe that Bahia has the best conditions in the country to make a project of this magnitude viable”, stated the CEO of GoVerde Energia, Ricardo Junqueira.

Sustainability and export at the heart of the mega-investment strategy

The project was designed with a focus on environmental sustainability and international competitiveness. The use of German technologies will allow for an operation with low carbon emission and high degree of energy efficiency. The company expects to transform Bahia into a platform for exporting green fuels, contributing to the decarbonization goals of countries in Europe and Asia.

The products generated in the park, such as methanol and ammonia greens, have wide application in the naval industry, in the aviation sector and in fertilizers, which makes the project even more relevant in the global economic and environmental scenario.

The partnership between the State Government and GoVerde Energia demonstrates the commitment of Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues' administration to position Bahia as a reference in clean energy production. The project joins other strategic initiatives of the state, such as green hydrogen and wind farms.

“The world is searching for clean energy solutions. With this mega-investment, Bahia is taking the lead and reaffirming its commitment to the future. We are building a new cycle of development based on innovation, sustainability and job creation,” highlighted Secretary Angelo Almeida.
