More than 200 thousand Brazilians who receive the Continuous Cash Benefit (BPC) have already registered and updated their information in CadÚnico, meeting the requirements of the Unified Social Assistance System (SUAS). However, there are still around 305 thousand beneficiaries who need to carry out this process to maintain the right to the benefit.
The director of the Department of Basic Social Protection of the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Elias Oliveira, highlighted the importance of CadÚnico for access to basic rights, such as social assistance, health and education. He emphasized that having up-to-date data is essential for maintaining the BPC and for the integration of citizens into the social protection network in Brazil.
In September, a new interministerial ordinance was published, establishing specific deadlines and procedures for the registration and updating of BPC beneficiaries' records. Beneficiaries who do not update their information within the established deadlines may face benefit freezes.

How to regularize CadÚnico
For those who have had their BPC blocked due to lack of registration or update in the Single Registry, the Ministry of Social Development advises that the first step is to call number 135, the official channel of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS). After contact, the benefit is unblocked within 72 hours, as long as the beneficiary informs that he or she is regularizing his or her situation.
The 135 hotline offers free service for both mobile and landline calls, facilitating the reactivation process for those whose benefits have been suspended. After receiving the notification, the beneficiary is given a deadline to register or update their information, which varies depending on the size of the municipality.
Regularization Deadlines
The deadlines for regularization vary depending on the municipality where the beneficiary resides:
- Municipalities with up to 50 thousand inhabitants: 45 calendar days to register or update in the Single Registry.
- Municipalities with more than 50 thousand inhabitants: deadline extended to 90 calendar days.
These periods are counted from the date of official notification, which may be communicated by the bank where the beneficiary receives the BPC or other government means.
Importance of CadÚnico
CadÚnico acts as the main gateway to dozens of social programs in Brazil, including BPC, which provides financial support to vulnerable elderly and disabled people. Elias Oliveira highlights that inclusion and updating in the Single Registry allows public and welfare policies to be efficiently targeted to those who need it most.
In addition to being a legal requirement, periodic updating – recommended every two years – ensures that information are correct, ensuring that health care, education and social assistance reaches all those who depend on the benefit.
Procad-SUAS: Strengthening services in the Single Registry
To strengthen services to beneficiaries and facilitate access to the Single Registry, the Ministry of Social Development created the Emergency Strengthening Program for Single Registry Services in the Unified Social Assistance System (Procad-SUAS), launched in 2023 through Ordinance 871.
Procad-SUAS aims to conduct an active search, locating and registering families in vulnerable situations, with a special focus on those who receive BPC. Through this program, the government seeks to simplify the process of updating the Single Registry and adapt deadlines to local needs, ensuring that the benefit reaches all those who are entitled.
Single Registration
Every two years, it is recommended that the data registered in the Single Registry be reviewed and updated. Periodic maintenance ensures the accuracy of the information and avoids blocking or suspension of BPC due to outdated data.
Furthermore, with correct data, the beneficiary remains included in the social protection network and can access other assistance policies and programs aimed at people in vulnerable situations.
For those who have their BPC blocked, reactivation is simplified with a call to 135, but it is essential that the beneficiary meets the established deadlines and is aware of the announcements issued by the government.
With the expansion of Procad-SUAS and the strengthening of assistance policies, the Brazilian government seeks to make the social protection system increasingly accessible and efficient.
CadÚnico, therefore, ceases to be just a legal obligation and becomes an important tool for inclusion and guaranteeing rights for thousands of Brazilians who depend on the Continuous Benefit Payment and other assistance programs.
Beneficiaries must be aware of registration updates to avoid blockages and ensure that they continue to be served by social programs essential to their subsistence and quality of life.
